Damn that sucks. I my GTE from Tiger and it was in excellent condition. I just got a gasket kit and timing belt kit and reaplaced it all(besides HG) and drove it. Oil was black as hell but it had good compression across the board.Has never skipped a beat and doesnt burn oil. I did blow the HG after i put 3k miles on it but i did turn the boost up to 10psi.
They claim they do a compression test on all motors before shipping them as well. I'd just send it back and get another one.

I buddy of mine (supranforever on here) got a jdm 7mge, and we replaced all the gaskets in it before we dropped it in, but since he's gone na-t (less than four months) it's been through a headgasket, and just started knocking.

Come to find out that the reason the head gasket failed is because the water jackets looked like someone used salt water in it. He spend about four hours or so pulling rust out of the damn thing. Honestly, when mine decides to blow up (which is inevitable) I'll be putting a 2jzge-t in that I KNOW is good.

I.e. stripped it down and inspected it.

Good luck with it, man, and hopefully they'll send you another one. I wouldn't trust that at all.

I come from a land down under
You're buying a 15 year old (at best) motor and expecting it to be a good runner?

The ONLY reason JDM motors became popular was they're cheaper than a rebuilt motor for people on a budget and companies could get a higher price than the Scrap metal price.

Expect the 7M's to dry up as China buy ALL the world's Scrap they can get their hands on.

40K miles? Yeah sure ok :nono:

If they're 40K motors they've never had an Oil Change or been serviced in any way.

my jdm motor I got from NY block exchange was in great shape, took it apart and replaced all the gaskets and seals, installed titan metal head gasket, put it back together and it's been running great since this over a year and a half ago, if it blows I will swap in a 1J and talk trash about 7M's in general.
