I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the cheapest jdm 7mgte motor. I have an 88 na and i want to swap motors. i know i have to get wiring harness and other parts but how much can i expect to spend on this swap. I was reading other threads and a guy bought 3 jdm motors in his time off owning his supra and every one had a rod knock when he first installed it.

Check around in our members section for people close by you, they may have a spare engine that they'd part with. There's a guy in my state (too_stand) who has tons of supras.

I hate the JDM in my car. All of the nipples in the cooling system are corroded, and I had to fix a BHG soon after buying the car and that was after the previous owner installed new rod bearings. I was lucky enough to pick up the original engine in pieces and I've started a rebuild on it.

Put up a thread in 'Parts Wanted' and see what you can get from there.

i got one from osakajdmmotors.com and i have had no problems at all and have been using it for 3 years so far. but i've heard of people not being so lucky and getting a shit engine shipped to them.

Um - have you bothered to use the search function? The JZ series engines are different - require a different loom, ECU, Gearbox bellhousing (if manual) and on some occasions, the front suspension crossmember.

Dont bother thinking about doing a 1JZ swap if you dont know the difference between the engines.

Arse != Elbow

As the others have said - no point in getting a JDM 7M unless you want to pay over the odds and still have to rebuild.

Don't put a JDM motor in your car without rebuilding it and putting in a MHG. You will have problems.

Hmmm..I did neither and my JDM motor is fine so far..Im hoping for NO BHG in the near future. Doesnt burn oil or smoke and purrs like a kitten at idle.I got a gasket kit and changed almost all the gaskets and seals (besides the headgasket) as well as changing the timing belt and tensioner and replaced the coolant hoses in the back of the head.I also re torqued the headbolts to 72ft/lbs. Whenever my headgasket blows i already have an extra one ready to go in and will just use arp hardware.
