also... random coolant hoses will be needed (the coolant hoses on the back of the motor going to teh heater core are routed differently, and make sure you have pics or something to look at for the vacuum lines under the intake mani... no fun

And here I thought I could just go ahead and drop it one in my 88...
This is not good. Does anyone know everything you need to swap?

um just outa curiosity whats the differences in tb? does the jspec not have hoses come out of it?

The linkage is different...right hand drive on the Jspec :naughty:

Doesn't the ECU need to be swapped as well?

Jspec ECU will work fine...it doesn't have the EGR programmed in either. If you have the EGR removed...I'm thinking that is a good thing. You do have to have the correct harness for your year group...pre-'89 or '89+

you'll need the engine harness and ECU from an 87-88 car. they have yellow plugs/connectors. you'll have to splice a few (4 at most) 1-wire connectors from a late (89+) style harness onto the 87-88 harness because there are a few connectors that are different. it's very easy to do.

you'll need to find an HAC sensor as well, because the 87-88 ECU uses an EXTERNAL HAC (high altitude compensation) sensor. it's a three pin sensor that mounts under the glove box area. you'll see the wires for it on the engine harness.

unless you NEED the EGR to pass emissions in your area, then you can leave that off. in order to retain stock-style linkage, you'll need the TB as you already mentioned, and you're on the right track with the oil pressure sending unit as well.

the j-spec ECU will NOT work if it's an 89+ ECU and going into a pre '89 chassis. it would plug into an 89+ ENGINE harness, but then the engine harness would NOT plug into the chassis of the car, as all the connectors changed, so in short, you cannot use the JDM ecu if it's an '89+ ECU.

Thanks Shaeff...I thought it was best because I got to thinking it would not do much good really. I don't know everything about these cars by any stretch of the imagination, but I do read (a lot) before I will even ask a question. The way this thread developed just kinda got to me I guess. Thanks again man...you and the other mods do great work ;)

upon reading the thread about how to talk to the oldschool fellas i see i may have underminded you guys and apologize. i was being lazy to your standards and also apologize for that. i also apologize for being rude too everyone i was rude to... i only felt i was being picked on but i now see i wasnt. im sure this post wont have another flicker in any of your minds but id just feel better knowing id apoloagize. i am greatful for the help. i have been reading up on the other threads and older threads trying to understand why it is i need to swap the oil pressure sender, egr, temp sensor. thanks again for the help and again im sorry for underminding you, being lazy, and being rude
