I have always had a question tho. What cars did the "JDM" 7M come in? Did Supras come with them in Japan? I thought they were only 1js. (Im probably wrong)

Isn't the throttle linkage or rotor different too. Or the throttle body? I had to change something around when I did the swap, but that was 4 years ago, so I can't remember exactly. The oil sending unit is different also I think. But I could be wrong about that.

ya thats right. also since they didnt have a egr, they shouldnt have the port on the tb right? when i did my swap, the port on the intake manifold for the brake booster was turned also

depends on the year of the engine.

pre-89 has provisions for both sides, 89+ is RHD or LHD specific. You can swap parts either way if needed.

When i swapped a jdm motor into my car heres what was different.
-Throttle Body(JDM TB only has 1 vac port, USDM has 2, and rotor is different)
-Throttle linkage (JDM's cable goes directly to TB instead of having a huge bracket)
-Water Pipe that wraps around block
-Thermostat Housing (no bvsv)
-No EGR(block off plates)
and i had to swap motor mounts as the JDM motor was 89+ and my car is an early model 89.

-I just used the JDM TB and just swaped the rotor and the linkage.
-Swaped water pipe when i changed the HG.-I actually just ran the heater hoses backwards until i changed the waterpipe when i had to change a HG.
-Took out evap can and still used JDM thermostat housing.(my bvsv was broken and i didnt have an extra TB gasket so i just left it on there too)
-Oh yea and i had to swap the oil pressure sending unit so my stock OP gauge would register right.(now i have prosport)

The good thing about the JDM motor comming with a cut harness was that it still had every single plug that goes on the engine..and since i had a few broken plugs i swaped them over.

not even close.

and sometimes just the opposite! the jdm 7m makes the same power, USDM or JDM.

the JDM 2jz makes 280hp and the USDM 2jz makes 320hp

so there.

I think you will find both cars are the same power, in Japan they had a law that no car could produce more than 280 hp. So manufactures always quoted 276 hp just look at all the top powers for jap cars Skylines, supras, GTO's. We tested a few that arrived in stock form in the UK and they all produced more than it said on the tin.

what are the differences with the JDM ecu's? I only have the service manual for the usdm engine, and I have a JDM engine trans and ecu.

Because of no EGR on the Japanese cars they have different fuel and spark maps. Not sure how different Jet Jock might know.
