ok guys i have had my supra for only like 2 months and it needs a new engine :3d_frown:

but anyway i cant find a motor local so i was thinking about getting a JDM one. i know you guys don't really like them through the searching i have done but whatever. Here is the problem i see they have different stuff on them but no one really says what to do about the differences. can i just strip the jdm one down to the bare block and put all the us?? motor stuff on it? or are the blocks different too?

thanks for the help guys!

Is your engine a total loss or can you rebuild it? If it can be rebuilt that would be the way to go.

i brought it to a shop for a complete rebuild and he said it could not be rebuilt i would much rather have had that.

Why couldn't they rebuild it?
umm something about a combination of my crank pulley being loose and screwing up the crank and crank housing, (i think that's what he called it i don't know) and he said the pistons were scratched and a bunch of little BS.

Please.....save yourself a lot of hassle.......buy some tools and do it yourself. If the crank keyway is screwed to the point where the crank is useless, look through the classifieds here and get another. If the pistons and cylinder walls are bad....rebore it.

If you go the route of the JDM engine, you will basically have to tear it all apart and freshen it up, which to me seems like throwing money away.....and all of this could be done to the engine that you have now.

If you are thinking about just buying a JDM engine and dropping it in....dont. Think about how old the engine could possibly be then ask yourself if you want to risk it.

Just my .02.....:)

well then i guess you should have read all of it. the engine is completely trash! i was just stating other problems with it

I agree with above statement.

I have a JDM I am in middle of a rebuild. I went that route only because when I purchased my car it had sat with a BHG for 3 years. Everything was pitted and engine was locked solid. but for 500 bux for the car and 85k on the body it was a good deal.

If your planning on buying JDM tear it down start from scratch that way you know what you have in the end. With JDM there is no telling what maint. was done or not done.

You can pick up a cheap JDM if you are planning to rebuild it. I picked up a GTE engine for 400 shipped but it had a rod knock. Crank was fine only turned it .020 under. .010 on mains. But Again I was planning to rebuild the engine and I had nothing to start from. Only advantage I have now is I have spare parts if something breaks.

Differences I see from US to JDM is the EGR system on the head. There may be more things but that’s really all I know is different. Which in my case I have the EGR system off my old engine.

IF anyone has anything to throw in that may be different please jump in because Ill need to know for the future.

Well if you let people know a little more like are you looking for a GE or GTE engine that would help.

Like stated before, the egr on the JDM engines are the biggest thing and well as the oil pressure sending unit.

What you want is a turn key engine, drop in and go. There is place in california that has rebuilt engine for 1300. 300 core charge if your engine is trashed. thats the cheapest place around

But you choose your weapon. I don't trust other peoples work unless there a rep shop.

They offer a 1 year warrenty blah blah something miles.

935 also has a engine for 1100 no core not sure if it includes head.

935 there helpful with ansewering questions.

Place in california was on ebay there not on there anymore so I can't help you there.. Hints they may not be so good.

Jarco in Atlanta. They offer JDM's and rebuilds for sale. I think they contract out there rebuilds so again you don't know whos doing the job.

It all depends. If you plan on upgrading for high performance not a wise choice. Daily driver no performance its ok.

Problem is they don't pay for labor to pull engine if it fails. and you will have to ship the engine back out. = pain in the ass.

Jarco does not get Jap motors anymore, the Gov. got them pretty hard, so they only do USDM rebuilds now.

Do you think i could just drop this one from 935 in and go? i basically just don't want to touch the bottom end. i also cant see if it comes with the timing cover or anything?
