Hey guys!!! I was wondering....... what happens if you bypass the j-tube with a stock fuel pump???? ( sorry if it is a stupid question) Does it reduce the fuel pressure?

no, it shouldn't reduce fuel pressure if the FPR is doing it's job. the reason it's drilled/removed/bypassed with an upgraded pump is because the new pump flows much more fuel than the stocker, and causes you to run rich.

It's actually not such a stupid question!

Logic would suggest that pressure may drop as you exceed the free flow LPM of the pump as it runs unrestricted!
(Just guessing here and would be cool to check out in the real world)

Thanks guys I do appreciate it. My buddy just told me about it last night so we went ahead and bypassed it. It seems to run fine........ But yeah IJ, i was worried about the same thing you are talking about. Do you guys think it will have any kind of effect on the fuel pressure?? I think my stock FPR is fine, but I was just wondering...... Thanks Shaeff and IJ.

It shouldn't if everything (pump and regulator) are working correctly. The reason that toyota put it on the supras was for a fail safe back up in the event that the regulator failed to prevent and overly lean condition and really only should have been on the Turbo cars. The just put it on the N/A's cause it classified as a sports car and therefore most likely to be driven hard. This is why they are not on the 7M-GE Cressida's here in the states. The Cressida's just have a block plate and no tube and no restricter anywhere inline.

Why bypass it with a stock fuel system? No benefit at all. Should only be done when there is a reason like shaeff said above.
:dunno: but as long as it does not harm anything..............( plus that is one thing I wont have to do when upgrading the pump w/injectors)

You're circulating ALL of the fuel through the Fuel Rail while it's running back through the return to the tank over and over as the free flow is higher without the restriction.

Put your hand on the rail after it's been running and you'll see what I mean, it's either a really good rail cooler or a really good fuel preheater ;)

Would't harm anything at all on a stock fuel system, unless like said above, the stock regulator goes out and dumps fuel unrestricted back to the tank resulting in no fuel pressure at all. Mine is bypassed with braided fuel line and a aei regulator.
