It's getting old fast, oil in air filter now!

Haha yes it is a plug, filter is just for cosmetics.

So is it a good possibility that my CPS is off a bit, i mean the car runs so it cant be terribly off, but it doesnt have full acceleration nor does it want to idle right all the time. Finally, TSRM also said it would cause (muffler explosion after fire up), and even when my entire car is cold i get the white smoke out the tail pipe. After reading the TSRM i think the CPS needs adjusted. Savvy sounding?

I would work on your code 14, but I can't tell you where to start:icon_frow

And from what I can see in that vid that smoke is blue, not white, white is coolant.

I would also invest in a timing light.

dumbo i have two friends that offered me timing lights in the last 24 hours haha. i thought i wouldnt need one due to the fact that there is no distributor in our cars, but i guess i may be wrong.

as to the code 14, i'm going to replace the spark plugs, i was in a money crunch so i swapped the ones from my BHG over to here(they were under 3000 miles at the time).
I'm also going to fix that ignition timing problem, or in other words the CPS.

Do i actually need a timing light to do a CPS, and if so, where does the light get pointed to? thanks.

Yes you need it and you point it at the harmonic balancer. Make sure the area is cleaned to expose the timing marks just above the balancer.

I did a full writeup on checking/setting timing as well. Search under my name. :)

And I keep seeing people say that white smoke is always coolant. As already stated, blown turbo seals will cause white smoke. Grab yourself a hot plate, and drop a half-cap of oil on it. Note that the smoke caused by the oil burning off is white. ;)

Thank you very much for the ground wire tutorial, i will definently be doing that soon. I al also going to take off the IC and clean it using gasoline, water, and a shop vac as recommended in another thread. My ground wire on my coil pack bracket has been loose lately and i'm going to ensure that it now stays tight. I'm changing out the spark plugs, doing an oil change, and cleaning out the (afm/accordian) hose as well. After doing the above steps, i will check to see if there is an improvement (i sure as hell hope so).

My current problem now is that the turbo smokes under boost, as soon as i get to 2lbs of boost or higher i get smoke out the tailpipe. The smoke from under the hood has ceased and the tailpipe does not smoke as bad at start up anymore. Only under boost do i get a smoke cloud now, thats why i want to clean the IC and accordian out.

Thank you all again for all suggestions and recommendations, and don't hesitate to keep them coming if you think i will benefit from it. Thank you.

Well were gonna have to agree to disagree, maybe..maybe if its extremly hot(yes I know, turbo) it'll burn whitish, but I think it'll have a blue/gray tinge. Can anyone atleast confirm that the smoke in that vid is blue, or am I totally colour blind?

AjWit: Since it sounds like your going on a cleaning spree, DON'T clean the AFM, apparently it will ruin it.

A cps being one tooth off will allow it to run, but it will run like crap, and you won't come close to getting the timing set. I know, cause it happened to me once.

i think the bad idle and poor performance is due to oil coating inside the afm. that would be my guess.

pull the dipstick out, take the oil filler cap off, and pull the pcv line going to the accordian hose. if smoke pours out of these areas you have some excessive blowby. might consider a compression/leak down test too.

IJ: Smells like oil to me and a couple friends.

Rayall: I'm thinking thats it's my problem, when i had to swap over the cps from my other head i put this one on questioning if it was correct, so i'm going to take it back out and try again.

dbsupra: Thats a very good point and i have not cleaned it out yet, but will now.

Does anyone know what i can use to clean my AFM?

I left my turbo connected to the manifold and the downpipe(and oil and coolant lines obviously. But now the turbo just blows air to nowhere, i took out some of the IC piping and i'm taking off the IC next to clean them all. There was alot of oil in them.

Because my car is basically an N/A now since i have the fair filter/afm going to an old IC pipe to the throttle body, i figured it would stop burning the oil since the air is clean now, well guess what, smoke as usual. That turbo i'm convinced has bad seals, even when it's not going to the throttle body and instead out to the atmosphere it is still burning oil.

Also, my car is as slow as a kid on a bike right now, no really it is. It took me almost 2 miles to hit 60 mph today getting on the highway. It has been castrated, no balls what so ever.

Do not clean the AFM electronics with any carb/MAF/brake cleaner...it will trash it.

I think it's time for leak down and compression tests.

WOW...never heard of that before.

Of course its gonna be slow, its a NA, with a restrictive exhaust, low comp pistons, and a ECU that has no clue whats going on LOL....and your code 14 prolly doesn't help.

Oil can still get from the turbo to the exhaust, not to mention OVER SPIN THE FUCK out of your turbo, WG opens at 7.5psi. Do you have a filter on the turbo, or is it just sucking shit into those fins at 100,000+rpm???

Oil can still go past the rings, not sure if it common for the oil passages to leak into the cylinder on these or not??

I would take a step back and do some brain work..

The turbo did still have a filter on it for the same reason you just mentioned, i didnt want things getting sucked in.

Thank you all for the help, i decided to sell the car and off it went. I got 3k for it, so i was happy and the buyer was too as he's owned a few mk3's already. Hope he gets it all figured out and enjoys the car, i did when all was good.

I still will check in on here from time to time and see whats going on but since i no longer have an mk3 my presence here will not be as frequent. I am still selling all my part out parts though, i had two complete cars that i stripped. Let me know if anyone needs anything.
