I drove my 89 Supra turbo to SILV05 - that's the 2005 Supras Invade Las Vegas event. When I returned home I parked it in the garage and it hadn't moved under its own power until today - ~2.5 years later.

A new battery was all it took and the engine roared to life!

Amazing!

Now I have a list of stuff to do to get the car back on the road again - new rubbers are a must as it is currently sitting on 2.5 flat tires. :)

I just had to share.

I have the PIAAs and have actually written the for sale text to post them up here about 4 times. Each time I write the text I realize how much I missed the Supra and was not able to post the rims up for sale.

A little more of the story.

My Supra has 186,000+ miles on it. Original engine + original turbo. I know they are both tired but it ran strong - making the drive to 9 straight SILV events from Portland (3000 miles round trip each year).

Back in 05 I had some issues passing emissions and since I wanted to make the Supra a project car anyway (no longer a daily driver) I purchased a Solara SLE Drop Top to flog around town to work etc.

As the days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months I found plenty of other projects to keep me busy - home ownership, SILV planning, home theater, game room, etc. Eventually the months turned into years with the only time the Supra moved was when I pushed it out of the garage for the Superbowl party in 07. I tried a couple of times to spark the project again by purchasing various parts etc (I've got a nice stack ready to get installed now). I even tried working on my headlights again.

KevinM came down this weekend and we replaced some drywall that I put a small (22" x 79") hole in when I was wiring my home theater (front projection 150" 7.1 - nearly 2000 watts). Then today we went down and picked up a new battery just to see what the Supra would do.

Crank, Crank, Crank, VROOM! DAYUMN!

Now I have a bit more motivation and the weather is turning nicer here in the NW (no heat in the garage other than the wood stove).

Will see what happens.

186,000 miles on the engine and turbo with only a retorque. 130,000 miles on the same reman'd clutch.

Who says these cars are not reliable? Kiss my Exhaust! :)

The return to Vegas with the Supra is up in the air. I've had to rent mini-vans the past couple years to haul all of the SILV stuff down (shirts, canopies, infopackets, etc). I'll make the trek even without my Supra.

mine started up no problem. the previous owner had it sitting for about 3-4 years. it fired up, but needed some minor things to get it running right. congrats on the revival of your supra!

I bought this Supra back in the spring of 96 - That'll be 12 years this coming April.

It came with just 50,500 miles on the odo - an average ~6000/year.

I had to replace the clutch within the two days - totally gone. Had to get towed on that one. I'm still running that same reman'd clutch more than 130,000 miles later.

Later that year I started having problems where the engine would die at a traffic light. The car ran so smoothly that I didn't even notice until the light turned green and I tried to go. I could eventually restart. Bad CPS - if I remember correctly. I was able to limp the car to the shop for repair.

Fast forward to the summer of 95... I had a coolant hose (under the thermostat knuckle) blow out. I probably could have taped that up and limped home but I didn't have anything with me at the time so I had it towed - only the second time ever during my time owning this car.

And now after 2.5 years it just fires back to life...

I LOVE THIS CAR!

You mocking me indirectly Dave?
Nah, although if I'd thought of it in time, I'd have done it!

I'll Supra on the trailer before I trailer on the Supra.
But it's so easy! Trailer hitch mounts on the Supra in under 5 minutes. I guess the wiring might take a bit longer... I'm still astounded that Toyota set it up for a trailer.

A buddy of mine with a Corvette got me started on the trailer idea. He had this little tiny trailer on his 'vette, it was literally big enough to stack 4 tires on and put a big toolbox next to them. Everything strapped to the trailer deck, he'd use it to carry his tools and race tires to AutoX events.
