You can put two nuts on the stud and tighten them against each other. And torque.

Or upgrade your studs to the 2JZ studs.

let's be honest...anybody who does that needs to be hit with a tack hammer.

LOL..

I'll be honest i have used that technique to install some studs (Mostly for removing stuck studs). It works, nothing dangerous about it.

Now that everyone is dieing to know lol... first of all the rusting issue, I would not personally re-use studs that had been in for very long, so the fact that when I removed the studs the threads came falling out with them on 3 of them.... anyway they were all new studs and the stud washer nuts (technical term lol) cant remember proper name, anyway I put a couple of washers in front of a nut (washer hits up against center portion of stud where threads change to fine before nut comes to end of threads) so that I could at least make sure they were in as deep as they would go, but did not torque them, then torqued the nuts...

Now that I have gone down that path, I do not have an issue with the way they are now, it is holding and no leaks, but if I am going to put all the time and money into the rest of the motor while it is out of the car, I sure do not want to keep this temporary fix as that is what I considered it when I did that this last spring...

I am looking for longer term solution without replacing head (if possible)

It does not get further into the harder aluminum...the more you open the hole the closer you get to the exhaust port=softer

Sorry, I have to disagree. But as always, my opinions are based on personal experience with many engines, not just one, but what the hell do I know about anything.....
I mean, if I hadn't personally fixed like 50 engines that had exhaust stud leaks, and none of them had a problem again after that, maybe I wouldn't feel the need to agrue my point.
But it's cool, Gottadiesel can listen to whoever he wants... :p
