I am trying to purchase a math book online but I am concerned about getting the wrong edition.

Does anyone know if the edition can change without the ISBN number changing?

On a side note: Fuck the prices of school books. Sheer insanity.

I always found the prices to be nuts. How can a college kid afford 3 or 4 books at $100 a pop? I still have mine from 10 years ago just collecting dust. Best investment of my life. :nono:

<----works at a college bookstore.

ISBN/barcode numbers change with each new edition. ISBN number IDs the books info, ie edition, author, title, etc.

Sounds good to me.

I took a chance and ordered the book anyway. It was SIGNIFICANTLY below market price on Amazon. I spoke with the seller on the phone and he was very helpfull. Offered to take the book back if it was the wrong edition, but he also informed me the book is so new there's no second edition in print.

Pretty sure I'm safe :)

kool. Regardless, most books don't change from edition to edition all that much. Usually they'll shuffle things around, or they'll remove or add a few small things. I find it funny when they come out with new edition of basic math books. How often does basic math change? lol

I get all mine off ebay, ~$50 each. Just find the one that nobody bids on and hit it with bidnip.

Then they get returned at the book store, I usually get my money back.

That's a good idea.

The average on this book was about 120 dollars from reputable sellers on amazon. I initially bought it at the book store because the additional 25 dollars was worth it to me for making sure I had the correct book, and it was new.

Then I spoke with this guy on the phone, I ended up getting the book for 70 bucks shipped, brand new.
