correction... it's Research Octane No. 91 (Octane Rating 87) or higher. For improved performance they suggest higher. I can take a pic of my owner's manual if you wish.

Do any of you even know what octane does and why it matters? How about the simple fact that you lose MPG and power by using an ocatne that is higher than needed?

If you're at stock levels, 87 is FINE! It would NOT put 87 in a car pushing more boost. If you're like me, you use premium anyways because you prefure the safety factor (especially in the summer heat we get here).

I only put the best in my baby. Overall, it's only a couple bucks difference for a full tank. Why get pissy about it?

I make a grand total of $700 a month, take home, and I still give my baby what she needs. I'm a broke guy, just like anyone else, and you know what? I deal with it because I love my car. 25MPG isn't the best, but it's not the worst.

Just my .02

We cannot get lower that 92 in our country at all. I'm going on 95... I was worried if I should put 98... I guess 95 is good enough :)

jocker :biglaugh:

I've seen a few people wanting to sell their supra because of these stupid gas prices. Which I think is a stupid reason to do so. Some even justify putting 87 because 91 is "too expensive". If they didn't want to pay for premium gas, then they should've never bought a Supra. On top of that, they bitch and bitch about it. It's really annoying.
I put 91 in my Altima when I had it. But I only put 89 when i had my stupid Taurus. lol.

Stolen from another site:
Japan and Europe use a system called RON or Research Octane Number to determine the octane rating of their gasoline, while stateside we use a system called AKI or Anti-Knock Index to determine gasoline's octane rating... Interestingly, to further complicate things it would seem that our own AKI system is actually derived from the average of the RON system and another more complicated system referred to as MON or Motor Octane Number... So, to recap our methodologies for measuring gasoline's octane rating are different, but share some common elements...
So, with the commonality of RON in mind a good rule of thumb is as follows, multiply the foreign RON Octane rating by 0.95 and you will have the US AKI equivalent.

( RON Octane Rating x 0.95 = AKI Octane Rating )
98 RON Octane x 0.95 = 93.1 AKI Octane (US measure)
100 RON Octane x 0.95 = 95 AKI Octane (US measure)

So, as you can see the 93 or 94 octane fuel we are all paying an arm and a leg for is actually quite comparable to the higher octane fuels found in Europe and Japan. The people whom have to worry about low octane rating are our friends out west in places like California that are subjected to substandard 91 octane.
91 AKI Octane (US measure) = 95.5 RON Octane

I wish the country would get more diversified as far as flex fuels go. We have no e85 stations in our area.

im with you. 90% of the food in the world comes from 12 major crops. corn, rice, and wheat provide 50% of that.

im not going to start burning corn, not because it's the worlds food and not because itll save nature but because it's got less energy when burned and will likely be more expensive than gas.

Only thing wrong with e85 is on older cars you have to tune it to run more fuel, something like 25% more fuel than gasoline.
From a power standpoint its great..Has a higher octane rating than gasoline so you can run more boost and more timing, kinda like alcohol. Ive seen quite a few turbo Honda guys retune their cars to run e85 and they love it.

gotcha, so less mpg but more power potential

Exactly. Too many claim they are Supraholics, but are so quick to sell when they get dissatisfied or bored and switch loyalties. Mark my words, I will be buried in this car the day I die :evil2:

Well, from what I've seen, action speak louder than words.

If you like your Supra as much as you like SPAM, you are set my friend.

You find the land, I'll get someone who knows how to operate a Caterpillar.
