First off; I am new to supras and to rebuilding motors. With that said I am in the process of rebuilding my 7mgte.{bhg} Well today I got the head off and as it turns out, the last owner put a new head on it with ARP bolts, but didn't put a good head gasket on it. After cleaning the block and head up a bit, I noticed something..odd, at least to me and the other techs at work. #6 piston is completely differnt than the other 5.{see pics} Is this normal for a supra, or did someone do somethin dumb and put a different piston in? Here is piston #1

and here is #6

Wow! so would the extra compression from this piston cause the head gasket to blow? I didnt get a pic of the gasket but the rubber around the edges of the gasket around the coolant passages and around the pistons was completly destroyed.

I figured as much, I just don't get why someone would do this. oh well. I thought about puttin all new piston in but I was told it would be a bad idea unless i bored it about 30 over or it would piston slap, somthing about a crosshatch? parts of the cylinder walls were smooth. guess i could just replace that one with a gte piston and be fine?

You already have it out on a stand why don't you do a full rebuild on it with new stuff? Obviously someone else (someone stupid) was in the motor. Who knows what other stupid stuff they did.

+1

Do a rebuild since you have it out already. You will not like it if you don't.

you should see the wiring nightmare. They used butt-crimps on almost everything. Im really good with electrical and bad wiring is a big pet peeve of mine. Anyways, I think I'll put new pistons in and have it bored out, my uncle builds drag cars and has a machine shop so I'll have him help me.

I have my motor out to repair some issues from the machine shop, and thanks to this thread I just found out my GTE motor has 6 new GE pistons. I didn't even notice it before, until I saw this thread with a side by side comparison.

Luckily on 2k miles so far, and I had a 2.0mm cometic gasket. I only have the 2.0mm due to availability/back order issues at the time.
