vvti is to toyota
as
vtec is to honda

The concept is similar, but their functionality is different. VTEC has two different settings where the VVT-I is constantly adjusting at various levels, not just two. Think of VTEC as a certain amount of valve lift before a certain RPM. Once passed that RPM range, the valve lift is changed to a higher level.

A few months ago(in 06 still) new cars here were labled 07 modeled even though it wasn't 07 yet, obviously, and some left over 06s are still on the lots in current 07.

Joe,

In the US, anything passed Jun/Jul is labeled the next year. 07/89 = 90 year model. This allows manufacturers to promote and legally make their new models for the next year.

how about the fact that you can find a mkiv supra for around $10k over in japan because to them it's "just a supra"
I think the skyline plays a part somewhere in that.

so why did they stop producing mkiv in the US after 1998?

Two reasons:

Toyota priced themselves out of the market. The Toyota badge doesn't (or didn't at the time) have the name recognition. And at the time where a brand new MKIV was $50,000 you could have a Porche for the same money.

-and-

The moronic CAFE standards here in the US killed the sports car/GT car market in favor of the SUV.

As for rare colors, did the mk4 come in Peridot Pearl Mica....its a light green...

In the US there were two Green colors. Both of which are very dark and not light at all. So unless that's a JDM color, which I've never seen either, no it didn't come in a light green color.

you can find mark 4's for a lot less...
Oh i know but your still paying a third of the US price for a 2jzgte powered mk4.

Prob. has to do with the fact that sales where alot better over there so there are more of them and the skyline might have something to do with it too.

The "overpriced" mk4...isn't one of the reasons they stopped producing it was just to stick with the lexus model because of the price?
no, it's simply none of the legendary japanese pocket rockets including the rx7, skyline, silvia, supra etc. just weren't selling. they had to kill it.
