hey there. i thought it would be a lot easier to describe my concern with video rather than words. had to youtube it.
I have a basically new shifter cap bushing thing (white) and a green truck shifter bushing. i never got to drive the car with the stock old bushings, so i don't know if there's a difference between the two, but my shifter feels very loose. I've had it like this ever since i through tranny in, but havent really payed attention to it 'till now.
let me know whatchya think

enjoy.

I can't see the video unless you give a direct link being that I'm on an iPhone....but is it loose side to side front and back or is it loose up and down like if you pull on the stick upward?

look harder for the link LOL....so you did screw that small plate back on to the top of the trans right...should be 4 small bolts....and you put a new plastic bushing on the very bottom ball on the shifter.....did you check the yoke that the shifter slips into cause that also takes a bushing that you can't buy from toyota anymore and has to be custom made..I had to make one already for a different toyota trans....so yeah there is a 3rd bushing and I know there is someone on this site that makes them but I forget his name.

if you send me your email I can send a pic of the bushing I'm talking about but I can't post pics with this phone....

So that small white end cap bushing on the shifter actually slips into another bushing inside the trans and its made from cheap plastic and tin metal...it = fail and untill you replace that your shifter will be sloppy.

That's waay to mushy to be right. Like GabbyVip said, one of your bushings is dead/ MIA, or the bolts are loose that hold the shifter down.

If you're using new bushings (especially the marlin crawler ones) that's way too much play in all directions except neutral.

ahh, the thing the white bushing rides on, that's right, i don't have one in there. i couldn't get the part, so i ended up without one. it came out so thin, how thick is it supposed to be?

Yikes! I hope that was a joke!

1) Clean that out.
2) Order the Marlin Crawler shift socket, and shifter end.
3) Install, and realize what crisp shifts you've been missing!

Here's a very helpful link for you, all the info you need. :)

because i have those new from toyota(black stock bushing replaced with green truck bushing like the one in this picture, and end tip bushing replaced as well), i'm just missing the thin piece, which i can't seem to find on this marlin crawler site.

okay so here's the story. i took my shifter out and i got it all figured out.
unfortuantly, i still have a broken camera, so i couldn't take a bunch of closeups like usual.
well, the pivot bushing was destroyed, in two pieces. this happened because i didn't have that thin teflon thing that goes around the bore of where it rides. another is because i put the green bushing on top of the stock rubber washer bushing thing, which would make the pivot bushing ride higher in the bore and probably rip up from the bore's edge. :nono: yeah i know.

so does anyone have a part number or something that i can use to order this part? i'm gonna need to order that and the pivoting bushing from toyota tommorrow.

here's another picture i found from a past thread.
