Is there really such a thing as a 500hp daily driver?

If you don't have the money don't do it. You need a reliable beater. A lot of thread in here with engine destroyed after rebuilt. It'll cost downtime and money. Some people car on jackstand for years waiting for parts, machine work and money to buy parts.

if you have 500hp dd you dont drive it like it has 500hp.. but thats me.. you're more worried about getting to work tomorrow then shaving that .2 seconds down..

DD is the best investment ever imo.. Yea you can daily drive it, but thing can go wrong and then you're sol.. or you pussy foot around..

edit: doesn't mean you cant drive your supra every day.. I drove mine every day until something broke.. so back to the beater

Always pays to have at least a backup DD. Something that runs excellent that you don't want to mod. My backup DD is the old lady's '87 Dodge Diplomat :) Lotta people drive 500hp DD's though. Of course, most of them have lotsa money too, cause at 500hp you'll go through a bit of gas even driving normal. IMO best mileage will probably be around 20, driving like Grandma. Not bad, but not great at today's prices :(

That's not true. Even an 500hp car could get over 20mpg if it were tuned to do so on the street and you keep out of boost(which is much easier with larger turbos).

I recall a thread on SF about gas mileage for those who were traveling to SILV. Numerous people in excess of 500hp reported MPG numbers above 20.

Hell, I get better mpg numbers with my Blitz turbos than my stock turbos. Stock turbos will make positive boost just driving normally. I could hit an incline and go into boost. My bigger turbos won't boost unless I really put my foot in it.

Really? I was thinking the bigger engines wouldn't get that good of mileage. Although I guess 2.5-3.0 ain't that big. I'm more used to the Chrysler V8's and 2.2 8v engines. I don't know what the capabilities of the stock computer system is on the Supra either.

My Supra is one mentioned on the downtime level... but I will tell you my plans for my DD... my shine some light on the situation...

my 02 max, (32 MPG Highway, 18 - 22 City Depending)

Currently has about 300 HP and I am debating either a 100 shot or wating for the SC Kit to come out to my car, either way my car should be sitting above 400HP here in the next year or so...

I plan to DD this car into my family life...

whether I take it to its limits, or stop at 400HP who knows, but I can say, with the right parts you can do anything....

I learned a simple saying which I will probably fuck up but it went something like this...

Chose 2 of the 3...
Reliability
Cheap
Fast

If you want Reliability and Fast it wont be cheap
If you want Fast and Cheap it wont be reliable
if you want Cheap and Reliability it wont be fast...

you chose...

Even big engines like LSx Corvettes can get great MPG numbers. Hell, most Supras suck more gas than a Z06.

I'm aware. Regardless, it is able to achieve great MPG numbers despite it's engine size.

Even with the new LS7 7L, it still gets 16 mpg in city according to Chevy's site... and 26 highway.

The 6L LS2 does 18mpg city and 28 highway.

I agree with everything here but you would be in a slight dilemma. Make the car able to handle 800rwhp, drive it with 500.... should be fine and as CK Anderson mentioned with a conservative tune... but the problem becomes... you can never have enough power..:naughty: so you'll soon want to crank it up and up etc... so that 500hp DD will become a 800hp monster and so on...

None of your fucking business
I won't drive mine daily, but every now and then I'll take it to work. It's too loud and uncomfortable for rush hour traffic. I prefer the SS, 400hp heated leather, AC etc...

500hp means nothing when you're packed in like sardines.

LOL, I have zero problems DD my supra.

Problem is, after I get a fresh coat of paint, I don't want the DD 'dings' all over it!
