hey guys. as some of u know i work at a shop and do ALOT of fiberglass work for customers audio equipment. i also make guage pods and whatnot. i have made a couple MKIV gauge pods and was wondering if there is a demand for custom pods or whatnot here. anything u guys can think of for the interior/engine bay (since i dont do body work) let me know. as said i can make pretty much anything! if enough demand, i can make a piece and mold it and then knock them off in Carbon Fiber!

Something in center console
Custom spark plug cover (1j guys can bolt something flat/raised down over the "vented" galley cover to allow sticker placement)
Fiberglass/cf airbox
Fiberglass guage pod in glove box
Speaker pods
Guage pod on dash
etc...

so break out some good ideas and see if we can maybe produce a new product for the mk3 community! :)

the pod i made for a mkiv a few months ago...

Looking for some front, ported speaker pods to house 6 1/2's with around 2 1/2" of mounting depth. Prefer mounting on door panel rather than in kicks unless they can be fabricated to keep dead pedal (doubt it tho).

At least for me I know there would be.

I would love the following in CF:

- Passenger side dash vent so I can conveniently mount my 3 extra gauges
- Air Box
- The Black "plastic moldings" that's on the B-pillar of our doors
- Rear sunshade
- Door sills

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - CF or CF over fibreglass radio/shifter bezel and matching fog/cruise/coin slot panel.

I'm interested in a big square/rectangular air box that would accomodate an OEM style filter of some easily obtainable car/truck make (think ARC air box here) that would bolt onto the inside lip of the side fenders and the radiator support, right behind the headlight, with a round opening on the back of the box that would be 4" (people still using 3" intake piping could just easily get a reducer for this, and still be able to upgrade in the future.) so a coupler would join this to the custon pipe going to the turbo/AFM (for those not speed density. All these people would need would be something like suprasports AFM adaptor piece to accept a cone style filter, then the afformentioned 3"-4" reducer coupler.) That idea would be tits ;)

A mount for 3 gauge pods on the dash somewhere, but mold it into the shape of the dash, either offset more to the left of right of the steering wheel, but still be easily readable without having to take your eyes all the way off the road (think MKIV style dash mount around the curving control panels for the Air and radio).

YES!!!!

but, the problem is 86-89's have different fog/cruise/coin panels than 90-92's...

maybe two versions?

I'm gonna third the 6 1/2" speaker pod idea for the MKIII. Very needed and desirable.

CF or CF over fibreglass radio/shifter bezel, matching fog/cruise/coin slot panel and the Black "plastic moldings" that's on the B-pillar of our doors are great ideas also.

I would be willing to bet the farm, that if you were to make the "B" pillar trim in carbon fiber, you'd sell em as fast as you could make them (stock is plastic and would be easy to duplicate in CF).

for the record... i won't be buying a b pillar pod if one is produced, i'd like to see something creative, out of the way (thinking roll cages here), but i like the idea of a custom air box specifically for mk3's

This would be a great idea - though I'd probably scrap the hole, and just make it cut-to-fit whatever size piping you are planning on using.

I'd also like to see someone make a spare tire mold for a sub box. Something that slides perfectly into the spare tire well, then comes up to just under the stock floor height and folds over with an inch lip to screw to MDF.

MarkIII4me- speaker pods are a possibilty. but thinking about it u would still have to do the install urself which is a bit involved for some. drop the door panel, remove speaker cover etc...

adam pecush- CF dash bezels and coin holder, that has been made and sold before. never saw a high demand for it and to be honest, its a tricky piece to work with since some areas are VERY thin and brittle (easy to break).

Starscream5000- the airbox idea is becoming a great idea the more i think about it. only thing is it would be more of a fiberglass/CF cover for the intake itself. to seperate heat form the intake and motor. making an intake out of fiberglass/CF is not very practical, due to the fact that one extra turn of a clamp on the fiberglass/cf inlet could cause it to crack! more ideas here though are appreciated.

MartinP- yes that idea is kinda what i was thinking. but again its gotta be something worth while a bunch of people can use. unless most guys run at least 3 60mm guages its useless to the majority.

Suprabad- "B" Piller??? u mean "A" piller? enlighten me on what a "b" piller is.

wiisass- we have fiberglassed and painted many a shwo car here and let me tell u, its the STUPIDEST thing u can do. the reflection from the paint on the windshield destroys ur view of the road worse than u can imagine. one of those u gotta see it to believe it kinda things.

GrimJack- the sub box in the floor i knock out on a regular basis for customers. is more of a cusotm thing since its not easy to make a mold of somethign liek that. the top has to be a solid piece (such as MDF which i use). and dont get me started on how much shipping such a LARGE piece would be.

All in all im leaning twoards making a cover for the 1jz to replace the stock vented one, OR some type of airbox shield.

again open for more ideas. would help GREATLY if some of u make pictures of what ur kinda describing to help me run with ideas while im at the shop. :)

maybee you could just make a sort of shroud that would box off a corner of the engine bay w/ just a 4" hole for the turbo inlet and filter

is it fair to say the most common turbo inlet size is 4"? maybee you could make a few different sized pieces depending on interest?

I was thinking a dash cover. Maybe it could be made with a dull mat finish to cut down the glare. In gray, of course :)
