I don't know if it is just me but the popularity of the MKIII Supra seems to be growing. When I first bought my MKIII in Feb. 2006 most people didn't know what it was, now it seems like everybody in my area either wants one, knows someone who has one or is in the beginning stages of planning a MKIII build. Just over the past few months I have meet two people with 2jz swaps, 3 7m builds and another who just completed a 1jz swap. This kind of makes me happy because his may make parts manufactures notice the MKIII plateform and build more parts and it scares me becuase the local cops may start to notice as well. Just thought I would post to see if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

I would agree. When i bought my first NA in 2004 nobody had any idea what it was. Probe? Rx7? old version of the nsx? etc. Now 2 kids i went to school with have em, and i see more and more of them pop up on the road. Esp shitty NAs. lol. I cant wait to get another one :)

It's a classy looking car. Properly maintained, it really turns heads. Even if you don't de-badge one, many people still ask "what kind of car is that?". I don't see its popularity growing, but they will always have fans and followers.

It's happening up here in nor cal, unfortunately, I still only have a "shitty" na, so people will probably think I'm just jumpin on the MKIII bandwagon. I STILL get the cliche scenario:
Them "Cool Supra. Is it turbo?"
Me "Not yet"
Them "Oh..."*look of disappointment*

I've noticed the numbers of MA70s around Portland, and the I5 corridor really take-off the past year. It has been nice to see the interest in this platform increase again. When I bought this car in 1992 in So Cal, it was a popular car. I'd see a few on the road most days. As time went on, I noticed I was almost the only one on the road most days, driving a Supra. IMO, now that it costs very little to get, has a lot of potential, it has a resurgance of popularity.
Four years ago, instead of buying another newer car, I thought that for very little money I could bring this car into the 21st Century. With about 6K invested in upgrades, I've got another 16 years of fun ahead of me. :icon_bigg

Theres nothing shitty about the N/A.... I would much rather have a good working "shitty na" than a truly shitty turbo (which a lot of them are).

Amen to that, my NA got me all over the southeast, NC, SC, KY, GA, AL, and it had 160k on it.
Clean, and working, NA > Turbo that's junk.

I'm guessing this was at Isphius, but atm, mine needs new rings for pistons 1-4, so my car's kinda verging on "shitty efficiency territory (probably be there in 10k miles or so).

Some of the "sweet" engine bay shots hanging around on the forums make me want to puke.

In northern california MK3's are no doubt growing in popularity.. i see alot where i live, some modded.
However.. there are ALOT more nicer MK3 N/A's then turbos..

because the turbo's; people buy because its a turbo, and beat the shit out of it... An N/A is just.. a car.. I see ALOT around here.. see a few modded.. there are at least 10 that i know of that drive around, and i know 4 people that own them.

Craigslist used to be littered with ads of BHG'd supra's, now almost none..

I have one, and am getting another soon from a dealership.. the 3E5 i have is getting 1j'd, and the other one im getting is an 88 turbo 5 speed.

Supra's are an easy car to mod and cheap to get some decent HP numbers (on a turbo)

Not to mention they are affordable to buy, look nice, and it seems they are slowly but steadily increasing in value here.

I def. believe that it is growing popularity, before i bought my mk3 there was only ONE black 87 parked on our street that i only seen run once a month?? Now that I have one either 5-6 people at my school are like "ohh i want one cuhz my civic suxx now" and pretty much, I spotted 5 running mk3's in different colors :D

Up here in practicaly the boondocks everyone knows the Mk3, even the 50+ year old guys i hang with know of it. However, I've only seen 5 or 6 tops on the road. Must be a New England thing with the salt and all. Shit I was extremely lucky to find my 88 turbo with the body it has on it (garaged since new). But there is a Pretty famouse 89 NA around; 3.2 stroker kit, greddy front bumper, claims to be pushing 300 at the crank. Sounded like a waist of money to me but hey... what a foundation for crazy setup.

do you think that people who like/want the MKIV becuase of all the coverage it gets in mags and movies, but when they see how much it is they settle for the MKIII, that was pretty much the case for me but the MKIII has truely grown on me since i got my first one in 2005 and i wouldnt give it up for anything. its simplicity and class make it a winner

I think I have eagle eyes now to spot one. Some people go out and buy the newest Cadillac etc then they notice how many others are around once they own it.

Its pretty inexpensive to buy a MKIII vs. a Hogan drifter and the parts seem cheaper. Also think the price of gasoline from the summer might have brought more out because the mileage is better for the power. Today I noticed more of those jacked up big wheeled monster trucks on the Interstate than I've seen lately.

Same here. When I saw a supra for the first time I knew I'd have one someday. Then i didn't even know what a MKIII was not to mention I and II, but then I saw a red pre 89 turbo sitting outside of what was my mechanics shop then and I'm tellin you it was instant love. Today I own a Silver 88 turbo and wouldn't trade it for any MKIIII unless it was to sell it and by an even nicer MKIII.
