is the 300zx (Z32) trans stronger than the R154? [-link to this claim inside]

I was surprised to read this, but perhaps I am just ignorant of the facts. Though to be honest, I had always read/heard the exact opposite provided both were in proper working order. Enlighten me?

have to look more into this, but his claim that they are cheaper and easier to find is false (atleast locally for me in bc canada). a search shows 4 r154 in junkyards invintory, but nothing for the 300zx trans.

From what I've read, the Z32 is good to ~600 hp. Duane's pushing a crapload more than that through an R154.

Maybe it's something to do with the location that messes with the price, the OP in that thread is from Hawaii, the land of weird. Or maybe it was a mistype, and he meant the Getrag 6 speed - the Z32 transmission is definitely cheaper than a Toyota Getrag unit.

synchro lock in tabs are what break causing stuck in gear and loss of gearand all hell breaking loose. these synchros must be replaced they are the weak point of the tranny but mine last about 4 months of being raced twice a week with 400+ TORQUE to the rear wheels
