Is Rod Knock Coming?

Problem was BHG and now looking back, I may be in trouble From this picture, you can see that there was about an inch of antifreeze in #5 Cylinder. Oil in #2 and i 3,4.Should I remove the crank and pistons ad get some OEM pistos and rings?

The head is full of coolant and oil.

You're fine, should always check when the engine is out, but you should be fine.

Unless you didn't clean the oil and coolant out of the cylinders. Then, you would not be fine.

i just did the same thing today
there was only a little bit of coolant on top of my pistons
cleaned it all up and after a couple of hours of perfect running i have rod knock
and its horrible

yep, but im thinkin you should be good
i could barely hear something knocking before i even blew my HG
but i could barely hear it
you really should be ok, just make sure to definitely clean everything out as much as you can.

um I dont think so. My HG was missing some, which is why i think it blew. I may just clean it good and then just go with it. How could I get all the other oil out?

Rebuild! Some people get a slow HG leak, some blow them fast. I personally would be scared with a slow leak. Mixing coolant and oil is never good, and that is what happens next to a lot of people I have talked to. Rod knock could occur.

Drain it, refill with cheap oil (the thinner the better). With the spark plugs out, crank until you see oil pressure on your gauge (do this several times). Drain the oil and refill again. Repeat the cranking step a few more times, now replace the spark plugs and drive the car for a few hundred miles and change the oil once more. Maybe even several more times for good measure.

Who knows if your bearings were significantly damaged or not, but at this point your only hope is to make sure there is absolutely no coolant in the oil...Maybe it will save you a rebuild (or at least postpone it), maybe not.

Oil, Coolant, and Heat = Acid. This acid is going to damage soft metals. The softest metal in your engine are your bearings.

There is no way to know when bearings will fail after BHG. As some have experienced, right away...as others have experienced, a year later. I made it a year on my bearings after a BHG. You may or may not.

What I did, was changed the oil twice before it left the garage. Then drove it for a day and changed it again. After that, 3k intervals... Almost exactly one year later - bearing failure.

As far as priming the oil system as stated by 'ben1984j', you can leave the plugs out for clearing the cylinders; but, it is better to prime the engine with the EFI fuse removed rather than with the plugs out.

Pull the motor out and replace the bearings and have a shop make sure everything is straight and within spec. You will be happy you did, trust me. Otherwise, plan for a new engine in the (hopefully) distant future. :(

Good luck man. I don't like sounding like a pessimist, but it happens with the 7m. How's the stuff cleaning up btw?
