ok, i just baught a 160GB ipod classic. I want to put my movies on it. I understand that they need to be ripped then converted to mp4. What program is the best to do this with? Ive tried a couple but im not having much luck with any. Also, the estimated time is 2 hours, is this right? Id like to think in this day and age that i could rip an convert a dvd in way less than 2 hours

i think the best was like a .7 x time type of rate..... there are a few programs that can go faster, but only like .5 x or .25 x ..... still not supper fast.

i've got an 80gig, and have had it for a while. i've got about 2800 songs on it, and i just borrowed my friend's external hard drive with over 33gigs of music on it. ;) (btw- that's a great way to steal music from friends without erasing your content, plug in the external hard drive to your PC, (or laptop), drag the music to a new folder, and import what you want.

i've got the movie CRASH on there, but i bought that from Itunes because it's good enough to buy. still haven't uploaded any of MY dvd's onto it.

i was thinking about buying some movies from itunes, but ive already got a fairly decent collection, and i really dont see the need to buy it twice.

^ i agree 100%. i wasn't implying that you should buy them twice. :) (simply that it's an option, and if you don't already own the movie, it's not a bad one.)

i wonder if you can download them to itunes then burn them to a DVD? i mean, $10 isn't bad for a movie, i suppose...

edit: i just got done adding a crap-ton of music to my ipod (updating now)- total of over 5700 songs. :) 23.x gigs)
