Been workin on my Supra since I bought it trying to make it a nice daily driver for the time being, I just finished the headliner and i'm not sure if I'm missing something that the PO may have removed for some reason
On the back portion of the headliner it looks like there is supposed to be some sort of support bar or rubber piece to hold the back end up. Is that right or am I imagining things? It's an 87 hard sunroof model, I'm also in need of the slides for the sun roof and a new seal (siliconed the he'll out of it for the moment). are there vendors that stock these parts or am I gonna need to prowl the classifieds here?

There should be a piece of trim that snaps in place to hold up the rear of the headliner... at least there is on a Targa, been a while since I tore apart a hardtop.

you bought a supra, you'll get used to it! ;)

Just keep searching. Craigslist is a great source for parts cars. As well as junk yards. And if it's a hassle, see if the supplier will travel. You may have to compensate them though.

87'z never came with a 'factory installed' sunroof so toyota cant help you with that...the one you have was installed at a dealer/aftermarket... factory sunroof was availible untill 1991

wow i didn't know that, where would i go for parts then? is there any way to ID which sunroof i have for parts lookup? if not i may just remove the switches and put a smooth layer of silcone down and make it a permanent moon roof.
EDIT: this appears to be a SEKURIT 43r-001090, i am currently researching locations to get replacement parts, if anyone is parting out a car with one of these sunroofs i'd gladly shell out the cash for these parts

im an 89 sunroof owner and best of luck finding parts...mine leaks like hell everytime it rains and im pretty sure is causing damage to my roof itself over time....the only thing i can tell you is to check with GM as well as my switch says gm on it and i know back then there was somewhat of a partner ship between the two companies hence the geo metro/toyota corolla being the same....you and i seem to be at about the same point in our research....lemme know if you find out any info on it and ill do the same for you. maybe we can figure it out in time....meanwhile ive been looking around and doing general sunroof research to see if i can find universal parts to replace seals ect....i have yet to pull my headliner but i dont feel anything in the area your talking about to hold the lining...in fact from the back edge of my sunroof to the front edge of my back glass feels like empty space....

yea the factory sunroofs are so big you could almost fit 2 people in it...but most of the aftermarket 1s i've seen are small and they look like shit compared to a factory sunroof....good luck

Well find out some info on mine it's a discontinued hollandia model, which means parts no longer exist for it it's in everything from honda to gm I'm gonna sears junkyards for parts, but what's got me really irked is I apparently bought the last heater core that exists for a supra outside of a dealership and fedex lost it grrrrrrrrr

if you have any luck with parts for yours let me know looked like jcwhitney may have seals that could work but as far as parts for the carriage idk yet but I do know a guy that can reproduce plastic parts out of some weird resin and a mold so I may not be totally borked on parts

I just got done converting my after market sunroof in my 87 to a stock one from a 91. Talk about a big job! Anyways, I learned a lot about sunroofs along the way. There is a "gutter" system in all of them with a drain hose in each corner. If you have leaking problems, don't blame the seal around the glass/panel but rather the clogged drain passage. The panel seal is mainly for wind, debris, or hurricanes as far as i can tell. There is another seal that is pressed against the sheet metal ceiling of your car for sloshing/leaking

I can take the seal around panel off, and pour a pitcher of water on my sun roof and every drop runs through the gutter system, through the hoses and to the ground.

The easiest way to clean then is with a low pressure air hose, mines a Wabasto Hollandia, but they parts are no longer available and there are no Supra's in the area for a factory replacement. It's staying sealed for now and eventually i'll be replacing it with a newer spoiler type sunroof ( i want a bigger one than i have now) :)

im having the same problem. i've heard about the drain trick. i plan on trying to blow the drains clean. my car came with no headliner and the sunroof is all banged up. so i assume someone tried to fix this a long time ago. not to mention the silicone residue that still exists.

im thinking about making it just like a removable targa type sunroof. with like clamps that close and seal it shut.
