Should be of comparable strength. Mallet is running them behind 400lb-ft LS2s with no problem.
Hmmm... That's not bad, but I'm aiming for 550+ rwtq.

Marlin does great stuff, but he doesn't add triple-cone synchros!
I wonder if those Solstice trans synchros can be added to the r154? I'm just thinking out loud...:naughty:

Island, some of us are already working on that.

As for a taller 5th - well... I don't want to comment on what's sitting on my kitchen table, until I finish the front brake brackets ;)

interesting thread.. i really think my least favorite thing about the mkiii is the damn shift feel. that and the weight.. which would probably be lowered by swapping in a different tranny? im not about 1 piece driveshafts though. hmm. definitely in for pics/ videos/ testimonies of functioning swap...

You also forgot to mention that you need a GM clutch when doing the AR5.

Wow, are they really charging that much? I've been doing them for $300 + parts. Cripes!

If I don't decide to do my own rebuild when the time comes..I know who I'm bringing mine to!! :biglaugh:

It is worth it I think I almost bought an AR5 in paramont for 500.
They have different sandwitch plates also.
Someone was saying the AR5 haves an aluminum sandwitch plate also making it lighter.
I was trying to tell my brother who bought a soarer clip for an automatic SC400 he could get the JZ bell housing & use an AR5 which puts the shifter way closer then a supra R154 & use a custom DS for 300 and save himself the 1500+ to buy a soarer R154 that haves issues snapping the shifter brackets.

There's a bit of difference in the slop of a 20 year old tranny vs fresh.

I'll be tossing my r154 in Jeff's car hopefully sometime next week, and we'll be able to check that out first hand ;)
