OKay, can somone explain how this works... You line up at a light take off first, second third but from off the line how can an intercooler possibly do anything if there is no airflow untill you start moving at speeds? Youd have to be around highway speeds in order for an air-air intercooler to actually do anything. Same thing with a radiator u can run at highway speeds without a fan but at slower speeds 0-45 you still need a fan because theres not enough airflow to cool anything.

meh, I could be wrong, but worst case you are getting more surface area to cool the air, regardless of how fast you are going...
so the effects may be marginal, but should still be there.
<should be same for the Rad.>

You do realize that at 15psi the ct-26 is pushing air out at temperatures in excess of 295 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s hot enough to boil water. Air at that temp will educe pre-ignition in a heart beat. You need to cool that down some how. Intercoolers are a necessity. Even if you’re moving at 10 mph (about how fast you'll be going before you see full boost, give or take) you’ll still have enough air flow to cool the intake charge by a considerable amount. That is why bigger intercoolers are better; they cool just as efficiently with similar air flow. And the time it takes to pressurize an intercooler with the volume of air that a turbo can move is extremely short and hardly (if at all) noticeable.

At slow speeds, you don't have any boost, either, so your charged air isn't hot.

Believe me when I tell you that intercoolers work, several folks have mounted temp sensors before and after their IC just to compare how efficient they are, and the difference is more than a little noticeable.

Heat sinking doesnt require air to be pushed constantly across it at all times in order for it to cool stuff down. Think of heat sinks on an amplifier for your stereo, they dont have air rushed over them constantly but they have heat sinks on them to give them more surface area to the air. I imagine this is similar to how an aluminum intercooler would help as to a round steel pipe. Some new cars are coming with weird options like water sprayers for your intercooler like the Evo's thats pretty cool.

I concur.

i also agree with the group. if colder air is more dense than hot air. you want more cold air in there, the idea is to use a intercooler. ya really wanna melt your ride?

I agreed..., the colder you can get your air, the more air molucules you can cram pack into the combustion chamber which will create more power . thats why there is soo much more power on a foggy 35 degree morning than you will have on a 100 degree day. science is cool..

stock intercooler @ 15psi = 102 mph trap speed w/2.1 60ft
water/air intercooler @ 15psi = 110 mph trap speed w/2.35 60ft

approx hp gain of 70-80 whp on 3600lb race weight car at same boost level.

Speaking from personal experience, intercoolers are definately NOT overrated.
My I/C was the best bang for buck bolt on mod besides my turbo.

Porterz-Well I guess you're in on some secret saying that intercoolers are overrated. You better let all the top world-renowned tuners know that they're wasting money and time on building and using them and not getting any power gains if they're not going fast enough.

Yes, that's sarcasm.

air-to-water ic ------ dry ice box----methonal injection.
then you add your newer intercooler. after a mixture like that your almost gaurenteed to make more power than you can shake a 1" wrench at!!!

CO2 sprayers are BAD.
Co2 does not combust, and displaces Oxygen. Thus 32 psi of CO2 will make very little power. Nitrous spray bars on the other hand...

most Co2 kits are for spraying on the intercooler not in the intercooler. the only thing you *MIGHT* want to spray in the intercooler is NoS. but then again, bottles are for babies, blowers are for real men!!!!!!:evil2:
