Is it legal to change intercooler piping from stock rubber to metal piping? Also are silicon couplers legal? This is in California

I know this may sound like a dumb question, but i swear to god that I have failed before because of colored hoses that weren't black :( so i'd like to make sure this is legit before I replace my cracking hoses with some metal and my 3000 pipe coupler with a silicon coupler.

Thanx

Damn, you people are harsh.

Some asshat in Cali failed a car because it was missing it's OE smog equipment... AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN CONVERTED TO ELECTRIC. 100% clean power, only emmisions were pure water.

Talk about silly laws... load up the pistol and try target shooting at your own feet, makes more sense.

Supra60-1 - that sounds like a good idea. Too bad I have to hide it because i don't see how couplers or piping even effect smog, damn nazis. I hate Cali-fornia.

look on the package and see if they have a carb eo number. if not, call around. i bet that you could be slick about it and claim that they are updated ones, due to the fact that the stock rubber and plastic ones cracked all the time. you might just need to keep the 3000 pipe there to fake your way through a bullshit story like that though.

^what he said!!^ i still dont think newer conectors should be a valid reason for failing smog testing.its all in the exaust. thats just like saying you could fail testing for using a gatorback belt. hell, if they really wanted to be evil, they could get you for not changing your oil at the dealer. am i right? oe parts are updated all the time.

Ok i'll try, but their logic is that if it is touched by the air going in or air going out before the cat it needs to be CARB legal. It is ridiculous. I just don't want to fail for something stupid, it is such a waste of 50 bux. The whole system is a waste because if they were really concerned with cleaner air then all they would look at is, "does it emit low pollutants".
