Intake question

Alright once again I look to the more knowledgeable members to answer a question for me. I was always taught that while more air getting to the engine is a good thing that it is more beneficial to be pulling colder air from outside the engine bay. However, I have never owned a turbo’d vehicle so this could be a moot point as the cold air would still recirc through the warm engine bay and out the hot turbo heating it up regardless what temp it was going in. So does getting cold air become moot as the final temp would be more dependent on quality of intercooler and routing of IC pipes then initial temp? Also I could have sworn that I read in a post that the stock air filter/box combo could (then again I could be wrong) out flow the stock AFM if that is correct where does the gains come from when swapping to like an APEXi intake which is what I am looking at? Any help would be appreciated as I am still trying to figure out what intake i want.

Heat is like penneys in a piggy bank........
The more you put in, the more you have to take out to empty it.
The cooler the inlet air to the turbo is, the cooler the air coming out of the turbo is, and the cooler the final air going into the manifold is.

But it will most likely be a very small percentage, since just the act of compressing the air adds so much heat.

That is also why using the biggest inter cooler-heat exchanger-possible is beneficial.

i figure adding an intake would go with the lexus maf upgrade when you add more fuel with an aftermarket fuel pump, afpr, and 550cc injectors. adding more air without the fuel to match can be dangerous to your motor.

With a type L injection system there is no possibility of motor damage. Consider that the throttle plate is most of the time the biggest obstruction in the intake system.

You have made an assumption that you are "adding more air". My point is that there is no data to support that any of these intakes "add more air". That's not to say they don't, only that it is not proven.
