Hey I was just wondering how much you guys with turbo Supras insurance climbs compared to driving a non-turbo car. My supra has a NA motor but was originally a 7m-gte. It sucks I know because im going to get charged for having a turbo even though i dont. Maybe if I show them engine bay pictures they will beleive me but i doubt it since they want as much money out of me as they can get. I kind of have a bad driving record with a crash and a speeding ticket. On my 1995 s14 240sx it was around 1200 every 6 months(w/o a outstanding student discount which I will have soon). Just wondering if i could get some ratios whether your driving record is good or not. Thanks again.

Actually this is a little known fact.

The NA vs. Turbo does not make that big of a difference.

Sport Roof vs. Hard Top makes a bigger difference.

i'll kick things off here...

full coverage on the supra plus liability on an old toyota truck and fiat was ~$820 for 6 months. No accidents, no tickets, no nothing. Now that I am married it is about 600 for 6 months. Booyow!

I pay $655 / year for mine. Full coverage, of course, and I have a very good record - tickets don't really count here, but even so, I haven't had any in over 15 years, and one at fault accident in the last 15 years.

Im 21 and pay $110cad/mth for my '87 NA targa. Hell my winter car is a 1996 Mazda 626 ES and I pay $25 more per month for insurance and its a 4-door sedan ,not a sports car. I don't get it. In brief rates are going to be different for everyone.

You can get classic plates? How old does your car have to be to get them? I thought it was 20 years, or does it vary state by state? Oh and my dad pays my insurance buts its about $650/6months with just liability.

Heh... how much do you pay them for all 5 vehicles in total? :)

Insurance costs vary so much from state to state, and city to city. Even the ZIP code you live in influences your rates. (High crime area v/s low one and factors like that.)

Your credit score, income, age, marital status, residence v/s rental and so many other factors not to mention driving reccord and accident history are all going to affect your premium rate.

That being said, mine is about 800.00 per year on 3 cars.
98 Audi A8
94 Infinity Q45
And of course the 88 Supra :) (5 speed, targa and turbo, so the tripple whammy of insurance taboo's.)

That might change, I just got my first ticket since 1991 coming back from Vegas.. (Damn NHP, they are just revenue generators, it was just the two of us, and clear blue skies, 10+ miles visablity and I really was not pushing the car too hard... It's only for 10 over the limit, I was going faster, but the bastard was not using his radar, so I did not get a chance to slow down before he POP'd me with the instant on radar. That shit should be illegal. If they are going to use instant on, we should be able to irradiate the hell out of the world with jammers of our own.) LOL End of rant.

Hope it does not change my rates too much, but I fully expect it to screw me over for a few years. (Just the motivation I need to develop a nice radar jammer that actually works, but does not sterilize me in the process....)

26, 1 speeding ticket, 1 accident(totalled both vehicles)
87 Turbo Targa 5spd
$100/month $250 deduct. Full Coverage w/ Progressive

Credit plays a bigger role for some companies than driving record.

Well, vehicles are
01 Toyota Celica
87 Toyota Supra
02 Hyundai Accent (wifes)
04 Honda 599 (naked street fighter)
03 Honda Rancher 350 ( atv )
^^ I guess that should be included with my homeowners and fire, etc. All is through State Farm, and I send them about 500 a quarter. I have no deductibles on the Celica or the Accent either, which probably bumps it up some. Wife sends the checks lol, I just play with the toys :)

Oh, Aye mate, the classic plate regs do vary from state to state. In Pa., it's gotta be 15 years old, out of Production, look essentially stock. No restriction on driving mileage or times.
