How many on here have upgraded their insurance coverage to reflect their mods and get them covered?

My 90 G(T)E is about to get a few upgrades with many more in the future. (Full Raptor Racing exhaust, Aftermarket wheels, Suspension... etc.)

When I shopped around for insurance, Progressive and Geico offered coverage for permanently installed add ons. I recently called Geico (my company) to ask about my premium change and all that. I told her I was planning on exhaust and wheels for now. She put me on hold for 5 mins and came back only to say they would not cover anything like that. She said those modifications are associated with street racing. I laughed out loud. The lady was obviously an idiot, she kept asking about my tires and I had to tell her more than twice, the tires ware regular street tires and the WHEELS are what I want covered. After me being VERY insistent on them offering coverage on my super clean, very lightly modded Supra she said I could have it appraised at a Geico location to see if they would cover anything. I was NOT expecting this much hassle.

With many of you driving mk3's worth double or triple their blue book, I'd be surprised if most of you didn't have any coverage on those add-ons. What's the deal?

I think your just offering up for higher rates, it's like saying "I have more power now and I can go fsater, come raise my rates." Why don't you just keep reciepts and take pictures of the car with the wheels, and don't even mention the exhaust or any "hot rod" parts. They should cover the wheels tires, because they are an upgrade. I don't believe "blue book is based on add on's or fast parts you have. It's not like: three inch exhaust "check" maft pro "check" 60- 1 trim "check". "Ok" your value is now " thousand dollars higher. They only care about, mileage, condition, accsories, upgrade that effect the value of the car, they could careless about the fast parts. I could be wrong.
Just my opinion.

Depends on your coverage and company ;)

You just cant call them up and say I want full coverage on my supra, then crash it and expect them to pay out on the $3K turbo you just installed on supra that is worth $2K. Some companies will let you have a appraised value, or insured up to $XX,XXX dollars. Call first and get EVERYTHING in writing if they say they will ;)

allstate here. My rep is about 10 minutes from me. Any time I drop $$ on the car i take the receipt to him to have it scanned and attached to my appraised value. I pay something like $10-20 a month per $2500-$3000 worth of additional coverage. I'm up to about $15k in additional value. I'd make out pretty decent if someone stole the car.

If your insurance doesn't have a clue, your going to be in for a world of hurt if the unthinkable happens..

I don't why anyone would tell your insurance that you have "special" parts, other than having a insurance like Grims. So Grim you told your insurance you have this and that and they didn't raise your premium, And they know your mods? "wow" Your very lucky. Maybe I should switch to a company that don't care about "special" parts.
