i know whats legal and not, i have to do state inspections just like you guys in ca and couple other states, but where i live it is not as strict where most of you guys live, that you can even have a cheap 2 dollar home made intake, but most cops around here dont bother, i under stand that they tend to give out glare but im sticking around 8k not going crazy with 10k or +, every one has a really blue color on the bulbs but im staying away since i never had a problem, also if something is not right on my car then my car wont pass inspection. and i never had a problem with my other car that HID, and if cops didnt pull me than theres no problem

see even 8k is above usable light. the brighter the bulb does not mean you see more. 4-5k is the most usable light.

check out hidplanet.com and read about hids and light and you will under stand.

i have 5k oem retrofit hid's with projectors and honestly my light is bright and i couldnt expect any brighter with out either blinding myself with un-usable light or other people which i hate when people's low beams are like 3x what high beams should be.

it has to do with smaller wavelength light scattering when it hits the atmosphere, the reason sunsets are red is cuz the light has to travel further throught the atmosphere then durning the day and all the blue light is scattered by then and red light (longer wavelength) doesnt scatter much and stuff,
and not to thread jack but does anyone have a picture of the cut off of hids in hella ecodes?

I should have taken pics (can't right now as the car is down) of my old DOT lights compared to my HID E-codes. The old DOT's had far worse glare...

There are still better options though.
