Installing CPS (not a timing Q)

I'm not the one that disassembled the head, so i don't know this: i get the CPS in, but there is space (like 2mm) between the cps and the head (same for the adjustment flange), that is occupied by the O-ring. is there supposed to be this space? will it go away when i tighten the adjustment bolt? wrong o-ring?

a pic would be great. no there shouldnt be a gap. the o-ring is supposed to slide into the head iirc. if it is sandwiched between the head and cps then it may be too big. again a pic will allow a quick answer

perhaps the gear itself did not mesh properly with the gear on the cam? Maybe try pulling the CPS out and slightly moving the gear?

do i have to get this O-ring from toyota or will it come in one of those generic catch-all o-ring kits?

no pics, cant get drivers for camera phone (x64 ftl)

EDIT: the oring goes all the way to the base of the CPS, correct? not to any of the grooves?

It's a standard metric O ring and goes in the groove. Just get it from the dealer. I use a gasket. End of leak story...forever.

Yeah go to the dealer. It's like 80 cents.

And I know exactly what you are talking about. A new o-ring will be TIGHT..... Use a little elbow grease on her she'll slide right in. Don't try to close the gap by tightening, the gear might not be fully meshed on the cam and you might crack the CPS adjustment flange.

So you are using a gasket in place of the O ring? That's how interpreted that, am I right?

I still use the O ring for alignment but the gasket renders it superflorous for sealing purposes. I'm anal though. Just don't make it too thick and best to make it the outline of the entire surface. That way you'll still get proper gear meshing and won't load the hold down clamp.

How about something dumb like the old O ring still in head and that is why the new ring gets pushed up to the top? The O Ring should fit in the groove just above the upper gear. Like mentioned, put a little oil on the rubber so it doesn't get ripped when installing and it will go in easier (same idea as injector O ring instalation)

oh, well that explains it. i put the oring at the base *lol*. maybe its .80 at autozone, but its $10 from Toyota (no joke)

no need, now that i'm putting the new ring in the right spot, it IS the right ring that came with the kit (but i made a gasket for it just to be safe anyways )

Car is back together. just gotta replace the connector between 3000 pipe and throttle body, and i be driving again (after 6 months of withdrawal) (hopefully it will actually run!)
