Oh yeah jet, like what? Watching all the honeys? Drinking a coffee? Texting on your cell? I'm joking!!!!

I know driving is serious business and I too find it distracting to be looking at gauges while driving.

If you're worried about losing the temp sensor but still want the aftermarket sender in that location, just get a tee fitting and put it in there and you still have both.

Aftermarket senders typically come in 1/8 NPT thread patterns and size, I've searched for several different gauges before and all of them came in that size. What's the M16X1.5 for?

Along similar lines -- Just bought a T-stat gasket for the car today, so I can change out the T-stat. They handed me an O-ring style gasket instead of the typical flat paper one with the wings....that right?? I think it's called a 'water outlet gasket'. Never changed the t-stat on one of these things, so I'm used to the paper flat gaskets like what's on my truck.

They gave you the correct part. It goes on the outer edge of the t-stat.

Once you get the housing off you'll see how it goes together.

Be sure you don't over torque those bolts when you put it back on, it's easy to snap them.
