can you feel the "gouge" with your fingernail? some vertical gouging is normal from thrust. i built a 7m without boring it and got away with it. some you can hone out. i did that. but some DO have to be bored out.. i just honed the hell out of the cylinders.. thats just because i HAD to get the car running. i suggest taking your time and bore it:)

Welcome to the forums!

BHG's suck, it's disheartening to look at your beloved car sitting disabled or disassembled, when it it should be out ripping ashphault off the ground and punishing hondas for being manufactured. I hope you get 'er back up and running soon dude :icon_bigg

I still laugh everytime I see Boost Lee's name; it's awesome, and the pic is better :icon_smil

It's ironic because I'm Asian (so as is BRUCE Lee) and my last name is Lee.

Works out perfect, eh? ;)

The sig, I made in MS Paint. Almost looks like it was meant to be. :D

Yea the gouge has a lip that i can feel with my finger nail..Not terrible but i wouldt feel real safe about it if i didnt bore it out. Will boring it out 0.20 over up my compression much?

Update:
I picked up a 7MGE from the junkyard for $300 (yes it runs)
So i have the option to build the internals or to not.
What is the best bang for youre buck when goin for hp?
internals, headwork, bigger turbo/intercooler or just a lil of everything?

*Everything from the blown 7mgte is just bolt up onto the 7mge isnt it?
-same rotating assembling

If you're building your current 7M-GE motor...there are a couple different ways you could approach this.

What are your horsepower goals?

A lot of people will just take the 7M-GE, put on a fresh headgasket with ARP hardware, GTE ECU, necessary turbo conversion parts and go from there. :)

You can run a pretty decent amount of boost and put down some respectable horsepower.

Again, it's all just a matter of what your goals are for this motor! :)

Jeff, didn't you just rebuild your K16 in your RIO?

My end goal is to have a mid 11 sec supra so around the 450-475 mark should do that with traction and supporting cast members.

yes im gonna build the "new" 7mge and pull all neccesary turbo items off the 7mgte and bolt them up to the 7mge and wa-lah i have a 7mge-T

This car is gonna be a w/e cruiser and drag car so i dont think i need a ton of aftermarket head work.(springs,valves,buckets,shims..etc)
If i can get my goal with fuel upgrades (550 F.I./255 fuel pump), fuel mangt.
bigger turbo/IC/FFIM, 3"-3 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust, lex afm and some Lipp products then i would rather go all bolt on.N/A cams are already a higher lift then the 7mgte's so i think im set there..maybe a port match/polish on the stock head.. (and of course a MHG and ARP stds)
Is there an underdriven Lightened crank pulley?
if all that didnt get me there then i would go inside..but since this engine runs and doesnt NEED a rebuild i prolly wont, I want to drive it this summer atleast a lil bit and toast some ricers here and there.

You most definately don't need 450-475hp to pull off mid 11 second runs.

There are guys running 11's and 12's with stock turbos, mind you. So, it's just a matter of how smart you want to be and just how deep into building it you want to go.

To be completely honest with you, I'm unsure of the capabilities an internally stock 7M-GE can do with it's higher compression and added supplies of boost and 100cc's more worth of fuel delivery.

But if you don't plan to do any head/block work for a smoothened surface, steer away from a MHG.

Good luck with what you decide to do, though!

Jason - Nah. I swapped out the K16 for a B16-R2D2BHGWTFK20A.

It's pretty tyt3, y0.

Slow,
I live in the Indianapolis Area and I have had my '89T (stock) for 10 years (I bought the car with a Salvage Tiltle from Brickyard Imports in Brooklyn, IN). I rebuilt the engine when I got it and have never had any head gasket problems (then again I am running the stock CT26). I love the car and its alot of fun to drive. As long as you do all the work correctly and don't cut corners, you will not be disappointed.

Welcome Slow Yota!

I had BHG less than 3 months after buying my '90 7mgte. I had a friend of a friend do the work (improperly) and it cost me the engine. So I strongly recommend a shop that knows what its doing as everyone else has said. I since have gone with a JDM 7mgte from soko with mhg and the proper prep work without any problems other than maintenance and minor issues. I was lucky enough to find someone on the forums local to me to "walk me through" modding my car and doing the work that I couldn't while I watched and learned. This is a great community with plenty of knowledgeable people to help you out along the way. I suggest you do as much of the work as you can yourself, it's a great, rewarding learning experience once you have the car running right.

However, in my experience, owning a supra isn't cheap...especially once you start going for more HP, and more HP, did I mention more HP? :biglaugh: It's addictive!

Welcome 2 the forum. I did my HG as well just over a year ago and have had no problems yet...knock on wood. Until recently I had the boost cranked up to 12-13 psi, my turbo is starting to use even more oil so I backed it down to about 8 psi before it boost creeps to around 10 at higher RPM's.

Wasn't aware of any more beloved Supra owners in the area!
Where are you located at? What color is your '89?

I'm on the southside in Greenwood...so if you're not too far away, It'd be my pleasure to meet another one around here! :icon_bigg

Not to break the thread...I am just south of downtown near U of I.....My Supra is '06 GM Imperial Blue (since last summer). I have posted pics of it partially reassembled from '06 in my gallery. I met someone from this Forum (mkiiSupraman18 maybe...i don't recall fully) over the weekend while I was out getting a burrito at LaBamba's and was told about this site. I used to belong to another Supra Forum (SOGI maybe...) when I lived in ATL, GA (1999-2004).
