Its so wierd because many of the 2j and 7M guys are all talking about how much torque, but I have seen a few videos of 1jzs running low 11s, low 10s, hi 9s and one running a low 9. All of these were on an MKIII body. I don't give a damn how you lighten it ( or if you do), IT TAKES TORQUE to get it moving. Horsepower keeps it moving. Horsepower makes it fast (top speed) but torque makes it quick (like when the back end squats). The 1j has both. It all depends on the setup. I know you guys are not argueing this but if you had seen the videos I have seen, more people would not switch to the 2j. This was Toyotas 1st choice on a JZ motor. They must have thought it to be a capable motor as well. I know a guy in Fla that was tearing ass up for a while in a little 2.5L 1jz MKIII (no NOS). This includes MKIVs, Skylines and some heavily modded American muscle. Most don't push their motors too hard, but once you get 600+ rwhp, just go hunting! 1J love!!!!!!!!

this really isn't the thread for an argument, but no doubt the 1jz is capable of making very good horse power. But it does lack torque quite a bit, I'm not really talking about in boost. Off boost driving around town. After having both the 1jz and the 2jz, the 2jz is far superior as for as daily drivability goes because of the extra torque. The 1jz is a fine motor dont get me wrong, but its 2jz is better (due to torque), Theres no replacment for displacment.

Horsepower is Torque over time... so the amount of work getting done over an amount of time. Torque numbers (by them selfs) are pretty much irrelavant in determining the speed quickness of a car.

back on topic..
wideband will be put on this weekend most likely and start tuning for 18 psi!

OK.... that's it.... you, me after school..... 1j vs 2j.::fundy::

All them ~500rwhp cobras and 2js included, have a new definition for "no replacement for displacement", their displacement have been replaced by a bully less then half their size.

1j is the king of the world...I think!:joshers:

i have to agree with tissimo though. the torque in Vaccum on the 2J is alot nicer. no need to start inching into boost for driving around town. i've noticed that i have to go 0 pressure 0 vac. just to keep up with traffic around where i live from traffic lights. Tissimo's 2J car would be around 12inches of vac while i was at 5 inches of vac and we'd be side by side.

the torque is nice, but im happy with the 1J

Theres one thing I'll never like, the fact that the 2J is practically the same as the 1J other than stroke. Why couldnt they have done a little bore so that it couldve been closer revability wise to the 1J.

Perhaps thats naive, but thats how I've seen it as far as numbers go.

Are you implying the that 2jz cant rev? Stock blocks have been taken to 8k no issues. Built engines have been reved to 9500.. Hell Stroker Kits rev to 7500-8k (hks rates theirs to 7500, many have run them higher)

No what im saying is they could have engineered it better..

what? the 2jz is probably the most over engineered engine ever.

The joke of that technical argument went right over your head, but I forgive you being that there's "7m" in your username. I kid..

Anyhow, back to topic.

well i raced my buddy who has a stock twin'd BPU car. 550's 18 psi, tuned he made 330whp. by top of 3rd gear he had about a car and a half and was pulling away steadily. im on WG which is 12 psi 60-1 440's untuned. but we were dead even with him on 15 psi. so i figure12 psi untuned im sitting around 310-315whp give or take. i'm happy with it. i think tuned on 12 psi i will be dead even if not beating him on 18psi. we shall see in a few days
