Well I certainly agree on both counts. 308 is wonderful on almost all counts. And the AK really isn't the most accurate gun, but it wasn't designed to be. It was designed to be efficient and affective within 150 yards or so, and it does that wonderfully.
308 is a great caliber, but it's a little too much for rapid fire use. I managed to get my hands on an AR10 once, and while I enjoyed it, only the first shot of a set of 3 would go where I wanted it to. The recoil wasn't uncomfortable, but it was powerful enough that it completely fucked up my sight pattern and I couldn't recover quickly enough to be effective. To note, this was semi auto, not full auto.
My AK however, I can average about 2 shots per second and still put every one of them in a torso target at 100 yards. I LOVE that gun!
