Upgraded turbo to 57 trim, DDP, 3" exhaust w/turbo muffler (might be some of the problem), K&N Cone filter, and MBC 10-11psi. I haven't dyno'ed it because it feels like it's not worth it at this point. It still has stock headgasket, which is one reason I haven't cranked the boost up yet, but I torqued all the bolts to 85lbs, . I think I losing some boost from stock intercooler piping, which I'm planning on upgrading soon...but so far I'm not impressed with the results. The last 2 things I was planning before a metal headgasket was electric cutout and upgrading the IC piping. Am I on the right path? I don't have the $ for a HG job, but would like a little more from the car.

Shouldn't your list include 550 injectors, fuel pres reg, Lexus AFM and SAFC? Seems to me a lot of the parts you have mentioned are dependant upon a complete and balanced upgraded fuel/intake/management system to reap any significant bennefits.

I'm not evening hitting FC yet. Is that necessary before a headgasket upgrade and increase in boost?

So, which one are you then? ;)

You torqued stock head bolts to 85 ft/lbs?
Dump the electric cut-out idea (no gain)...Metal IC piping will help.

You got to understand that these cars are fat pigs and you're still on the stock fuel system and turbo even if it is a 57-trim - doesn't matter if it was a gt47-80. With your mods, you should still be able to take a GT mustang (older) from a racing point of view. Also, you may be right about having a boost leak.

You're not waking that turbo up until about 15psi, at which you'll probably be happy. Get some fuel upgrades, headgasket (or do a leakdown/compresion test to ensure yours is good), some fuel management and up the boost.

Mods in my sig (and shimmed wastegate to right under fuelcut) are enough to walk an '05 Mustang GT...

Your boost is way too low to really have any fun, and running around on a stock headgasket is a ticking timebomb IMHO...

How many miles on it? have you ever done a comp test or anything? Me and my brother have identical cars when I first got mine completely stock with 35k on a stock rebuilt motor running 4-5psi would keep up with him. He has 3in turbo back, apexi power intake, 2.5 lipp pipes+ hks ssq at 9psi but 140K. I would recomend doing a comp test, leakdown and then pressure test your ic pipes or just get or build hardpipes.

Fuel wise he's FINE, fuel cut is still there to protect his engine...

The headgasket on the other hand...

just like the fuel cut, the head gasket is there to protect his engine too. if it blows up then hes gone too far.:biglaugh:

jk

on a serious note, along with your BPUs already get the head gasket, decent intercooler and the lex and SAFC combo.

you should be able to get 450-550 on that setup

Wow! You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the replies. I'm still going to have to do all the machine work when I do the HG regardless of if it was blown right? I'm saving up for a HG job to hopefully do it before it goes.

On compression...I did a test and got 180-185 on all cylinders. I've been monitoring the coolant tank closely and it doesn't move, so I'm assuming the HG is still good.

Yeah I torque'd the stock bolts to about 80-85...I'm just crossing my fingers at this point.

It has a hard time maintaining boost so I'm really thinking the old plastic/rubber IC piping is leaking like crazy.

My piggybank just isn't big enough right now. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that situation.

I'm hoping to pick up a parts car for a build and then eventually do a swap.

yes, an intercooler the same size will out do a stock one any day. some of the vendors here sell a spearco replica. almost a direct bolt on.

the head, have it shaved and a leakdown test.

unless your super rich or super poor then yes, everybody is taking a big hit on this recession. good luck

Max on stock bolts is 70-75 ft/lbs...you do not want to re-use those ;)

If you get ARP hardware later, pay attention to the torque specs on the sheet that comes with them and use moly for lube. Do not use the "I heard" spec your buddies tell you.
