From the picture it's the coolant drain port for the block. Either the threaded plug/bolt is leaking for some reason or it's missing.

Can you take a closer pic of your leak? My engine didn't have a true draincock or anything there when I got it, so I just took a suitably sized metric bolt (can't recall the exact size) and a little teflon tape and used that to plug the drain. Has worked so far, but I can't say if that's the best solution.

If it's really what you've circled in red in the second picture, it's a freeze plug.

However, I don't recall there being one that high on the block right there, which means it's either coming from the back of the coolant bypass pipe and spraying on the block, or your head gasket has blown from the water jacket on #6 to the atmosphere - which is well within the realm of possibility, I did that on my car once.

Here's a picture of a bare block for reference...

That 2nd pic was confusing me as well. There wasn't a freeze plug that high on my block, and in the 1st pic I didn't see any overt sign of water coming from any of those plugs. From what I saw the water looked to be coming from the drain port rather than a freeze plug or higher up on the block. Could just be a question of the angle of the pic though.

As for that drain, what is it usually plugged with?

The drain plug is well below the leak. The bolt up on the top is just to hold on the coolant bypass pipe.

It's usually plugged with a ... well, a plug. Looks like a big bolt, the threads are almost the same size as the head.

wow on hell of a bump there. I don't know where you are now at on your coolant leak, but from the pics it just looks like one of your frost plug is leaking. EZ fix.
