Everyone loves a good challenge. I think I have an electrical problem with mywife's 1989 turbo supra.

Every now and then, when she takes off from a dead stop, three lights on the dash will light up and the car will kind of bog down. The brake light, tail light, and battery light will all light up on the instrument panel. It did it again today she said. It seems like it only does it from a dead stop and you try and take off pretty quick. It did it at the track saturday night one time as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have had the alternator and battery checked. They were both fine. I need some of you geniuses to give me a few suggestions. Well suggestions regarding the car, I know you have some suggestions for me not regarding the car.......................:biglaugh:

Thanks Seth, how many grounds should I check. I only know of one ground that goes to the battery. I will go check that and also make sure the battery terminals are on tight..................lol

Sounds like a short or loose wire to me, and under hard excel the wire moves and shorts or losses connection. I would turn the car on and wiggle every wire I could find and see what happens.

Thanks for suggestions guys. I checked all of the wires, and nothing was loose. The terminals are tight, and the ground for the battery is tight.

I don't know of any sensors on the tranny to check. Does anyone else have any suggestions?.......................lol

Maybe the exhaust or air filter *other sort* are clogged...?
Idle isn't adjusted correctly...?

Stock intake/exhaust?
Check your Air/fuel ratio?

I'm just reaching, I think

The battery light is the most telling. For it to come on the voltage at the sense wire must be dropping below minimum or the field in the alternator rotor is opening, either of which will be detected by the Type M voltage regulator used in the MKIII. Focus on those areas. The sense wire is the small wire connected to the positive battery post. Alternator belt tight? Cables chafing? Is the rpm dropping below 500 when this happens?

Find the source of low voltage problem and it'll likely correct everything.

JJ I haven't noticed if the rpms are dropping that low. It has only happened a couple of times and it honestly catches me off guard. It does feel like a major loss of power. It corrects itself when I let off the gas. I will pay closer attention to the rpms next time, but I'm sure they must be dropping with the way the car feels.

Supraman My intake/exhaust aren't stock. It idles great, and it runs great other than this little issue. It did this Saturday, and didn't do again until this evening.

there are other ground wires on the engine such as the one that goes to the firewall and block also on the tranny. i rewired all of mine with larger wire seems to rum abit smoother.

When the key is on, and the engine is off, the light on the dash will come on. If you are having an intermitent stall, this could happen. Such as with that elusive bad ground.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a couple of diodes on the back of the dash cluster that's wired to these lights. Could be going bad.

highly doubt it.

battery terminals can SEEM tight enough, and when you loose power can even still be connected to the post, but the whole thing will still trip out.

double check your battery terminal connections.

has it been doing it before,or have you done any recent work that might have provoked?
the car is pissed about something, tell it your sorry for whatever it was,and throw money at it,literally. usually fixes it.
