SMG can be full manual, or full auto. I don't see your point. The only lazy part about it is the clutch which is hydraulically actuated for you with various selectable programs of engagement speed.
the point is its no diffrent then the triptronic only this version doesnt shift one when your in triptronic mode. it just a triptronic 2.0 nothing more

The SMG stands for sequential *manual* gearbox. It is not tiptronic at all. Its a manual gearbox with an electro-hydraulically actuated clutch and shift forks.

Tiptronic is a conventional automatic with a torque converter and planetary gear set. It is nothing more than an automatic with manually selectable shift points, not the same at all.

Go test drive an M3 if you can, as SMG is a very unique experience.

quote from the link I provided:
"It's not an automatic, and its not a manual. It's a sort of mix between the two. There's no torque convertor ( like a manual ), yet the driver can opt to have the onboard computers change gears for him ( like an automatic ). Oh, and there's no need for a clutch -- SMG-II does it all itself via hydraulics.

OK. So picture a manual, but without a clutch pedal. Instead of the conventional H-pattern, SMG-II gives drivers something different. Drivers can still opt to row their own gears ( hitting the rev limiter just like a normal manual ), but changing gears happens in the blink of an eye by pulling back or forward on the "shifter". 80milliseconds. No human could possibly change that fast. Oh, and if you have to downshift, you'll even get a little throttle blip as SMG-II matches revs. Heel-toe driving gone, perfect shifts every time. "

So i heard the Trans from the RX-7 shoud have a very simular H-pattern like the one from the supra!

But i dont know at wich position the reverse-gear is. It shoud by like the one we have got.

So anybody got a rx7 (twinturbo)here in the forum? And can answer my question?

Regards Breth

Sô, the stillway shifter is not the same concept! It allows you only to shift up the first 4 Gears sequential! The 5t Gear and the downshifting is normal like the stockshifter does it.

The Ikeya thing is a complete sequential shifting system. You can shift all gears up and all down (sequential).

If you don't understand, go test drive an M3 and open your eyes.

kinda like the other end of the triptronic concept instead turning a auto into a semi manual your turning a manual into a semi auto.

Munk, I edited my post to tone it down... got a bit carried away, sorry about that. If you can, find an M3 with SMG and try it out. Definitely not like anything you will have driven before.

oh i know i love all the german cars. i just see it as another triptronic only on the other side of the scale.

oh also you don't heel toe on a sequential I've driven race cars with them for years you just blip thats it (thats actually why you are blipping is because your not using your clutch). i don't know if you knew that or not. it helps when your using a clutch too but not needed.

Yes, FD RX-7's have the same reverse position as the R154 and the W58. Now whether or not the internal travel and angle is the same for all positions, I have no idea.

I am wondering if there is some form of adjustment that can be made internally on the shifter assembly.

Yes, please do.
I wish I could waste $1800 on a shifter...

In hopes of modifying it to work. Definetly keep us updated with as many pics and step by steps as possible.
