How steady is it? I was trying to get my cousin into the idea of being a bouncer, hes not exactly the brightest guy on the planet, but a 6' 7" 300 lbs, you cant really argue with him.:biglaugh:

Well it depends. I live in one of the biggest party area's on the west coast so it's rather stable random work. The random work pays better then the constant club or bar work. I'm workin 4 hours for a street party on the fourth and being paid 120 plus food and drinks, and possibly a tip. 30 dollars an hour under the table is pretty good for standing there. If he hooks up with a good bar he could work 3 nights out of the week. I'm paid 100 a night. You wont get rich, but 300 a week pays for a lot of stuff. Combine that with an average job (500-600 a week), and he's ballin.

Second is at a bar/dance club, free drinks all night long.

(drinks mean alcohol)

Wait... so you get to DRINK on the job? I've been a bouncer for ~10 years and I can't remember one job where that would be a good idea. How do you make sound decisions under the influence?

I worked as a bouncer for a number of years at a large club. There were always lawsuits being filed against the club and some of those were against the security staff. The owner of the clubs brother was the District Attorney at the time, so it made life somewhat easier. I would HIGHLY discourage you from drinking while doing security. You and the club owner are flirting with disaster. If it goes to court, you are toast....period.

Watch your ass CK. I did that job years ago (6' at about 225 lbs at the time). Eventually, you are going to get cut. Lots of assholes think knives & straight razors are fun things to sneak into clubs.

If you are going to keep doing it, invest in some good concealable stab resistant armor. It will keep most of the life threatening stuff from happening, just guard your throat...

^interesting.

I've never heard of someone getting slashed, and no one claims to have been slashed.

I'll look into it though

Thanks!

If security work weren't dangerous they wouldn't be paying you well. Protect yourself, people make bad and stupid decision all of the time.

On another note, don't be a complete prick to people who are causing you grief, if you always do your best to keep a level head there is much less chance of somebody coming back with a grudge.

Had the first "incident" at the bar last night.

I was working the door, and I saw some guy puke over the railing. I told the other security guy and he and I 86'd his drunk ass. He kept coming back to the door and trying to get in so he could get key's from his friend who was also plastered. I kept pushing him back outside, and once hee made it past but i grabed him from behind and tossed his ass back out.

The drunk guy then started talking shit to this local drunk outside the bar and they almost duked it out.

This went on for about 30 min, and some cop finaly rolled thru observed this drunk idiot pleding to let him in, and finaly told his ass to leave the area. In the end, the guy appologised and kinda sobered up. He was cool after that.

Tally for the night,
60 bux
5 hours of work
1 free dinner (chicken quesadilla)
2 drinks
2 redbulls

Not bad. Food was GREAT!

I'd like to do security work, however i need an SIA license, which is fucking impossible to get hold of - and stupidly convoluted and pointless...

£9 an hour is standard, rising to about £15 an hour - would be my ideal job :)

you need a licence to do it there? haha... here all you need is the ability to tell people no and stay sober.

It's not funny, it's flipping sad...

You'd be amazed the things you need a license for in the UK.

Like watching television... And at some point they'll require a license for a personal computer using the TV as the precedent.

They are even talking about licensing the Scotsman's sporran (the thing hanging in front of the kilt) and my personal favorite, fishing fly's made from animal hair:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/6234290.stm

Bored, under worked and overpaid civil servants have turned the UK into a bureaucrats paradise. I'd rather dive naked into a swimming pool full of razor blades rather than live in the UK.

Go watch the movie Brazil. Years ago it was sarcasm and political commentary. Now I think it's a documentary...

Daft as a fish in a privet bush...

Well the TV license pays for the BBC - which otherwise we'd have to deal with commercials - and £120 a year for 8 commercial free channels with quality programming is worth not having annoying ad breaks every 15 mins :D

SIA license is basically 'we need to know that you're competent' and registering yourself with the police - nothing more. It's not expensive to get, but finding places that run the courses and getting straight answers is hard - the people already in the security industry want to keep to themselves and not invite 'auslanders' :p

Personally i think i could be a good security guard/doorman - i'm 275 and 6'4, yes, i can run, no, i dont sleep all day....and the pay is good! :)
