Lol, your breaking my heart. Why didn't you become a bus driver afterwards? Lots of guys I know came over from the military but we prefer transport types to fighter jocks. They're too hard to work with ;)

The Talon is a thing of beauty alright. For it's age it's one of the best looking trainers out there. Used to be one in private hands but he lost it during a movie shoot afew years back. Ah well.

Jeez, tell me about the cost. I don't drive a 20 year old Supra because I'm crazy about it. The Albatros is in the restricted category but if I ever get out that way I'll bend the rules and we'll see if you still have what it takes ;)

Heehee...I literally drive a bus now...the Airbus 320 series. I'm one of those guys that break the mold...never did a desk job in the AF, built a bunch of hrs in these two acft and got hired. It's pretty boring compared to what I used to do...as it should be. Still in the Reserves, but I quit doing the flying thing...too many currencies to keep up with and started getting lower back issues, so I stopped while I was still on top of the game. The Viper is a very demanding machine.

I guess that's why I dive a Supra myself...love tweaking it to see what she'll do :naughty: You ever come out here LMK...Scottsdale & Deer Valley airports are 15 min away. There's actually a practice area right over my house...watch them doing slow flt, stalls & falls, etc all the time LOL

BTW...that Albatros looks like it would be a very fun toy to play with :biglaugh:

can someone explain how it works? what does the manifold tube do? Would the alt being unpluged mess it up? Does it take input from it? Why does it work when the car is first start up? What do the coolant lines going to it do? How exactly does it get the engine to change the idle?

"Could be the IDL contact in the TPS may not be closed so check that'

The TPS is also new my mechanic did not know how to set it given the directions. Turn till the meter deflects? he dident know what this ment? plus he dident have the exact size feeler guage

Porter - it just might be time to get a new mechanic. If the guy doesn't know how to check continunity, an EFI system is waaay over his head.

Here's the info on the throttle body, TPS and ISC:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/fi/FI_100.html

Here's the Dashpot system:

The entire TRSM is on-line here, with a buch of other info too...time to do a little light reading.

he told me in his shop they set them by how the motor sounds

Huge warning! That will work for a '70's 396 w/ a carb...it will NOT work on a Supra. You might like the guy, but you need a mechanic that knows how to work on a EFI system. Otherwise, you are going to get one problem fixed only to cause another.

I learned how to work on this car myself...I found that most mechanics do not know how to work on this car. The TRSM is your bible...if you have a problem, find the info in the TRSM 1st, read it, look at the car, read it again. If you can't figure it out...ask the question here last. Describe the problem in detail, what you've done, what the name of the parts involved are (according to the TRSM).

Go slow and think about what you're doing. There's a lot of experience and excellent know how on this forum...IJ, Upgradedsupra, JetJock, GrimJack...that just names a few. I don't hold a candle to these guys, but I read and learn...it takes time.

*Deflects just means it moves, So when the ohm meter needle goes from zero to not zero, it just deflected or moved. If you don't have a .050 feeler gauge, you can substitute a .020 and a .030 and put them together to make a .050 inch measurement. Or any combination that gives you the thickness you need.

Also....

*Continuity: This means that there is a continuous path for the flow of current in an electrical circuit.

Example: One wire has continuity at both ends until the wire is cut. Then the continuity is lost. :)
