Ok.. i got my car timed.. and now it runs OK.. not great just yet.

When i start the car cold it will run at about 1,500-1,750 rpms, and sounds smooth and unmolested.

When the car is at normal operating temperature, it idles rough, and will die. (i have to mildly powerbrake)

do i need to further adjust timing?

also - i am running around 10 lbs of boost, i have a simple mechanical boost controller, would turning it clockwise drop my boost? (i want to drop boost down to 7 or 8)

thanks guys!

What did you time the vehicle to? Have you checked ALL of your vacuum lines? Does the car boost ok right now? Did you jump the Diagnostic box when timing the vehicle?

ok ill describe everything i did in steps, as best i can.

first i took off the timing belt, made sure #1 was TDC, and proceeded to align the notches on the crank pulleys to the back of the timing cover. i put the belt on (and i actually got it on without losing my place)

so i was exactly at TDC.

It wouldnt run.
Next i proceeded to adjust the CPS. now it will run great driving, but doesnt idle so well. It boosts fine, but i do have some surging going on. (boosting at 10PSI)
Now my CPS is all the way down on the bolt, and can only be adjusted upwards, My question is, should i try to adjust it upwards and see what happens? (i dont know how to use a timing light)

Thanks guys.

You should use a timing light to set 10 degrees BTDC. Just attach the light to the battery and the inductive pickup to the 1# spark plug wire.
As far as the boost controller it should be counter clockwise to reduce boost pressure.

Yeah dude, after its all TDC, u put ur CPS (if its the same as a distributor) out and align the notches on the shaft, put it back in and then fire it up IN DIAGNOSTIC MODE, then use a timing light set it to 12*
