so i drove my car from my friends house to my house yesterday (about 4 1/2 miles) and when i got home i wanted to look at my engine for the hell of it. just looking around i i decided to check my couplers and see if they were still good and tight and then i noticed my IC piping from my TB to the passenger strut brace was HOT....like ow hot. Now i know its natural for it to be warm being right over the turbo but it shouldnt be hot to the point i cant hold it right? i dont remember it being this hot before i got my DDP on but i could be mistaken.

am i looking at problems here or am i again worrying over nothing?

Yep it gets that hot.. I have all heat shields and the stock plastic and rubber IC pipe over the turbo is too hot to touch after a drive.

Supra seems to be one of the hottest damn cars Ive had. At a highway rest area I swear the tops of my feet were burning as I stood nest to front side of the vehicle.

Its the only car that cooks its hoses onto itself... so yeah pretty hot.

I have a turbo blanket Im going to wrap my turbo in..

Might be "normal" but still not "good" ;) High intake temps = bad
Nice too see another "Springs" guy around.

FYI: My IC pipes read (via an IR temp gauge) on average of 10deg above ambient.
EDIT: This is with a FFIM

I'm just about to re-wrap my pipe. Do you guys figure that reflective aluminized wrap might do better than the usual fiberglass header wrap?

the reflective wrap is designed to fend off radiant heat like a mirror, which is why you typically install it on things you want to keep cool. Therefore, I don't see a benefit using it on something hot...go with the fiberglass header wrap.

I was thinking of wrapping the IC pipe, to reflect the heat from the exhaust area. Should help prevent the IC pipe heat in the first place.

ah, sorry, for some reason i thought you were talking about exhaust.

yep, the reflective stuff should work well on IC piping.

What about ceramic coating the IC piping? I've been looking into it a lot and have read through several debates on it but there has never been a sound conclusion; though my logic makes me think that it would be a good thing.

All the piping but the IC itself, or just post IC? One of the arguments I've heard is that the heat of the air off the compressor > heat of the engine bay, so the pre IC piping helps cool the air slightly aswell so it would do the opposite of the intended. Again just what I've read over other the various forums.

I come from a land down under
For mine there's only 1x cold pipe into the engine bay the rest are outside so can act as heatsinks if left uncoated.

Heat will always go from Hot>Cold so if a pipe is 50c in a 90c engine bay it will get hotter

If it's 50c in a 30c area outside the engine bay it will get cooler.

What of the pipe between the compressor and the ic, before it leaves the engine bay? Is them saying that it is better to leave it uncoated correct or bs? Or is it variable to other mods?
