Well, I just installed a DIY 2" IC pipe kit(as in buy a generic kit and use a portable bandsaw to cut to fit). It looks great, and Im very happy with the removal of whatever lag there was due to the crappy stock IC piping- especially after the IC to the 3000 pipe.

But what I did not expect was my supermonitor to tell me that I'd gain about 1.3 mpg as a result. I was averaging 15.7mpg with my normally lead-footed driving, but now with the same heavy foot, Im getting between 16.9 and 17.0

Im wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

You probably had boost leaks that you were unaware of with your old piping. :)

Well, I had tested for boost leaks before I put in the MBC about 4 months ago and had none. I wont discount that one could have developed between then and now, although my MPG was roughly the same 15.5 to 15.8 since I bought the car last March, and as soon as I bought it I did all the preventative maint./tune-up jobs(oil, fuel filter, plugs, wires, new battery, belts, coolant hoses, vac lines)

My MPG has gone up since I did my mods...

Exhaust was the biggest player, but the IC pipes definately helped as well.

Figure out how many 90's and 45's you need and swing by your local muffler shop(that has a mandrel bender), and ask for some pipe in the size you want bent up w/8-10 " of legs on each side of the bend. Most shop charge about $5-10/bend, plus the cost of the tube. If you want to use aluminum swing by a local steel supply shop or steel fabricators(that sells supplies to the public), get what you need and have a muffler shop bend it for you.

i think im going stop by this huge warehouse that sells aluminum and steel pipes. Just to get my car running im going to run DYI set up. Since i swapped from an NA using the same p/s resevior therefore i can't and might as well not use the fender ic pipe and find away of going through the stock intake box. Thanks tho

I just bought an ~$90 2" pipe kit on ebay. I had it from a while back, used it on my MK1 MR2 turbo conversion. Comes with 8 couplers, 16 t-clamps, 2 90deg, 2 60deg, 2 45deg and 2 straight pipes. For the price and the ease of it showing up on your door, it works well. I just cut to fit and it took about 4 hours. The bitch was the comp. outlet, but once you get the pipe down youre golden.

The only way I measure mpg is with my supermonitor. If I didnt have it I would have cared less. Supras arent built for gas efficiency, but I did find it interesting that IC pipes netted me 1.3mpg, with better response. I guess that the stocker IC is ok, but the stock IC pipes were made for ease of install at the factory, not performance.

You don't need to step on the loud pedal as hard to get the same acceleration.

What is it 90% of the throttle is basically the same as full throttle. Just not wasting as much gas.

somethin to that effect, is what i was always told.

Could be wrong, just my 2 cent,
