IAT mounting location... must be in intake mani?

just finishing up the MAP ECU installation, once i'm done i'll have pics (its hanging from the top of the glovebox, looks really nice) anyways in the instructions it claims that the IAT sensor should be mounted in the intake manifold itself, after the TB. Now this is particularly a problem for me considering already one of my throttle body bolts stripped through the aluminum so if it happens again i'm screwed (and i no longer have my ron r. intake mani :( ).
So i did some searching and it seems like some of you are mounting it before the TB in the intercooler piping but i didn't see an honest answer if it would work properly or not. also if it does work fine where would the best location be?

thanks,
jayson

Same here. I do get heat soak sometimes, idling in traffic, or after I park and shut it down... I might relocate it to the intercooler exit, not sure yet.

I'm thinking that having it read too cold means it would possibly run rich, while too hot means it might run lean, and I like to avoid lean.

I mounted mine in the I/C piping close to the oem snorkel hole when I did the maftpro install. Worked great, and I avoided heat soak probs.

Jayson, I could easily fill in the stripped hole with weld and re-drill and tap if need be. Rons manifolds are too nice to toss out because of a stripped thread!

thanks but i already sold the ron r. mani... at first i was gonna do a big 7m build, then went 1jz, then ran into problems financially so i'm stuck with my 7m after selling all the parts :(

but its cool, just running 60-1 ct26 for now with 100 shot :)

so looks like if i mount the IAT sensor near the snorkel hole i shouldn't have too many issues... looks like thats where she'll go, thanks guys!

prob the best place for it- keeps it away from the engine heat and keeps it fairly close to the TB....

Well, if the factory THA sensor is in the airflow meter, somewhere in the intercooler piping is where the most accurate signal will come from.
