I want to drop my a/c help please

so i wanna drop the ac because 1: its doesnt have a belt on it so i dont now if it even works 2: doesnt get hot enough here for me to put the ac i can easily open the window if im feeling a little toasty. anyways, i now i need to bleed the ac system from that little plug on the passanger side of the radiator but im not sure what else i should do or how to take the ac compress off. looked high and low on the tsrm with no success

Leave it on unless you plan on taking this car to its grave. Why do you want to remove it? Doesn't really add that much weight and decreases the value if your car quite a bit when you take it off.

Yea, I would leave it on. But since you asked, once the system is blead of refrigerant its basically nuts and bolts that hold every thing on. there are four long bolts (12mm i believe) that hold the compressor on with two 10mm bolts that hold the hi/lo pressure lines on top. Then a bunch of 10mm nut/bolts holding the condenser and drier assembly. I believe a 17 or 19mm is needed to remove the ref supply/return to the fire wall.

I can vouch for AC, allthough I never had it in any of my Supra for more than a week or two (fucntioning not gone), they were the coldest two weeks I ever drove, .

I don't use it, so mine is gone..

the compressor, AC condenser, lines and all that stuff adds up to roughtly 40-50 lbs give or take (might be higher than actual, but you get the idea)

You should take it to a shop with a vacuum pump to have the system evacuated. The R12 in there isn't friendly stuff.

well like i said i never use the ac because im always cold and it doesnt get hot enough here for me to need it, i dont now if it works or if it even is charged ( car sat for 2 years), and im planing on drifting so lighting up the nose i believe will bring a better weight balance to da car.

so after bleeding the system should be fairly easy to unbolt?

Note that the AC is also really useful for muggy rainy days. AC dries the air as well, so it defogs better than anything else.

Yes, after having the system evacuated, it's reasonably simple to remove. Well, the condenser in front of the radiator, the drier, and the compressor, anyway - the parts in the dash aren't so simple. You'll still be looking at draining the coolant, pulling the fan, shroud, and radiator to get the condenser.

I actually was able to get my condenser without having to remove the fan itself. My system had like nothing in it anyway so it was easy. The worst part for me was getting the lines out from through the rad cradle.

What you also need to look out for as stated above is the fog, not sure about the mk3s but mk2s as soon as it starts to rain it insta-fogs inside the cabin. I'm in the same boat right now, I already dropped my air boxes from under the dash (mk2) the condenser, lines and compressor... just need an alternative.

But I was in the same boat, non functioning and R-12... useless amount of weight and space.

When my car fogs up cracking the window a tad works, or even the cool setting on the heater works fine...I think A/C is overkill for that.

Most mk3's leak water, the floor is often stupid hot on these cars, all of this = fogged up windows, AC clears it in minutes even at a warm setting as it dehumidifies the air in the car..

I don't understand why people buy a Mk3 then remove all of the creature comforts that make it what it is.

The beauty of a Supra is you can have all that crap and still outrun/handle/brake most cars on the road in luxury...

Agreed. I regret disabling and half removing the A/C from my previous two supras. I intend on keeping it in this one with the power steering as well since I have a nice used couple of pumps and compressors from all the damn 2jzge's that seem to find me somehow... lol

thanks for the insight IJ and i completely agree with you but since the supra aint my daily driver planing to go to the track in the summer so removing it doesnt seem like a big deal. and since im not even sure if it works it was on my list of things to remove along with cruise control(not working) and this metal plate in the trunk area that im not sure wat its purpose its( the rear was gutted wen i bought the car).but i suppose it wouldnt hurt to slap the belt on it and see if it works.....

as for the silvia remark. NO. silvia, 240, and watever else falls in that category dont float with me. 4 years supra been my dream car and now that i have one im build it to have fun.

don't listen to them, my 89 is not my daily driver, so why would I want luxury items? That's like requiring the one legged hooker you visit on the weekends to categorize your CD collection by how much you rocked out to them back in the 90's, that's what the wife (aka the DD) is for...

Both of my vehicles were Daily Drivers, and it was really nice just to know I had the option and that everything was intact. If it's a track car and it doesn't work, then by all means remove it. But with the capability of our cars, an extra 40-50lbs won't much a big enough difference to really see, and re-sale value will go down.

But then again, just my opinions. Do what you want with it, I'm just worried it will be another Supra to the junkyard if no-one buys it from you in the end (assuming you will sell the vehicle at some point).

Whatever you do though, enjoy it and make sure it's what you want. Then go for it! lol
