First i just want to say what happened just blows dude. Like most people said, if u dont feel like fixing it at this time. Let it sit and come back to it later and before u decided to part it out please take it apart to see the damage and maybe it wouldn't be that bad at all

I think what it is , is that we get so strung out on if it aint one thing its another,
getting to burned out from always having ti tear something apart to fix it all over again,.....

I agree with willfish above, we as humans, get stressed out and our perception of problems (even small ones) change... step back for a few weeks and come back to it, and see if the desire is there to to get her boosting once more :D

That is terrible. What engine is this? 7M, 1J, or 2J?

This was a 7m... don't start on the 7m being a POS either... 270 degrees will kill ANY engine... This was not the fault of the 7m, it was my fault. Most problems with the 7m are the owner. This engine has given me 0 problems before this for a good while making 500+ hp at the rear wheels.

I can only hope it didn't score cylinder walls, get rodknock or warp the head.

Block = .040 over so it's trashed if the cylinder walls are scuffed
Head = shaved 1mm... also not much use left if warped
Crank journals = .020 over... useable limit... :(

So, it could be minor, or could be total loss... don't know yet.

I went out and fired it up this morning though. The ticking appears to be valvetrain noise(maybe a valve clearance). The coolant out the tailpipe is gone, but I do have a good bit of blue smoke from burning oil now. That may go away if I drive it.

At the moment, it looks like I'll be pulling the valve covers off and retorqueing the head. I'll just work from there.

dont give up. uve got too much time in it. plus u know u love the car.

anyways.. i know in iowa that if u are buying a handgun, u must wait 3 days before u can pick it up so u dont do anything stupid with that purchase. i suggest taking a few days off of the supra and get laid.. alot. or get severly drunk or something. chillax for awhile and then come back to the beast and tell her whos boss.

dont let the supra you own, own you.

sounds like you are in a much better situation than you thought. I really hope that everything works out for you because it would be a bummer to quit when you are so far along. Let us know how it goes.

EEk.

I am scared about my 7m build now hearing all the hate.

But like you said the fact that u ran it to 270 isnt gonna be healthy for any power plant.

Good Luck

If you've had no problems b4 this mistake, learn from your mistake and fix it. And I may have a block and head you can get for cheap soon if you'd like, I'd give you a good deal cause I liked your car a lot. Good luck

damn, how the hell did u hit 270? my fan shroud somehow broke off in traffic, blocking my fan from spinning, and i noticed that my temp gauge was at the 3/4 mark, when its usually at about 1/2.. i managed to drive for a few miles, wait at a stoplight or 2 and drive a few blocks more before i turned it off and the temp gauge stayed at the 3/4 mark the whole time. during that day, it was like 85-90 degrees out. i let it cool for a bit, fixed the fan shroud and i was good to go.. no permanent damage that i noticed

edit: also another time one of my coolant hoses popped and the temps ran into the red.. i must have driven it for a minute or two before i noticed and immediately shut it off. car was fine after that episode also

retorqued the head, and need to replace one shim.

Car was blowing a little oil smoke... I drove it around some and it's fine now. Still a little blue every now and then, but I can live with that for a while.

This is the toughest damn powerplant I've ever had in ANY car. It's survived all kind of shit. I've run it HARD for over 25000 miles and it's taken every bit of it without flinching.

Oh and.... with the AEM on a half ass map mostly untuned(on boost AFR's in the low tens) and I think the AEM timing basemap... car pulls harder than EVER.

This should be a fun summer. Thats for all the encouragement and support guys!
