I spy - somthing red? NGK Iridium BKR6EIX-11 Plugs From My 1UZ=FE

Hi all, I have been having a odd ball hesitation when driving, I have replaced both coils, put a very good ground on the igniters, and have always ran premium 92 or 93 octane fuel and still had it. On this engine I put the NGK Iridium BKR6EIX-11 plugs in the 1UZ, I just pulled them out tonight and took some photos because I'm seeing a red or rust color on the ground strap, there is also discoloration on the ceramic around the center electrode, I have compared it to some photos online but didn't come to a conclusion. So I'm hoping others can help decipher it.

Plugs in-line per bank looking from front of car towards engine, 1 bottom right, 2 bottom left, etc...

BHG? Hate to say it, but that's the first thing that comes to my mind... might be getting coolant into your cylinders.

Spk plugs look clean as a whistle with BHG... And usually it would be only a few cyls. All of these look exactly the same.

Those plugs look fine, IMO.

Also tolulene can make plugs go red.

Those motors get some condensation too.

BHG? Hate to say it, but that's the first thing that comes to my mind... might be getting coolant into your cylinders.

From what I have read its very hard to blow a head gasket with these engines and I have had no symptoms of a BHG. Thanks for the reply.

Well I have ran Lucas fuel treatment through it, but other than that I cant see my daily fuel having anything odd in it.

Yea, I have noticed that in the few I have been through.



So the NGKs were only ran for about 5-6K miles, and I allways had a certain hesitation when going up a certain hill in 4th or 5th gear, after running the same hill today a few times with the BOSCH I could feel a little more power, and some of the hesitation I felt when cruising has gone as well, so maybe the NGKs had a incorrect heat rating for the 1UZ? Or maybe its just the fact its Iridium? Questions, questions, questions, we shall see here soon when I pull the BOSCH plugs out and compare them with the NGK Iridium plugs.

I knew bhg's make cylinders clean up quite nicely, I didn't know it had the same effect on spark plugs though. Good point on them all looking the same though, have yet to ever see a BHG motor behave so uniformly.
