Just bought a 60 GB Pod and a kit to plug it into my Pioneer Head unit as the last big trip I heard the same song twice in my 12 stacker! ;)

Just ripping and loading it up with music and was wondering if anyone has any good info on these things or suggestions!

IJ, when you say you got "the kit" do you mean the add-on IPod interface that plugs into the back of the head unit, or did you just get an auxiliary input kit? If you got the IPod interface, how do you like it so far?

I went with the auxiliary input option back when my Rio Karma 20gb mp3 player still worked, and it was ok...great if you had a playlist already set up, but changing songs/finding songs while driving was a bit dangerous, and the fact that I couldn't charge it while driving without a separate adapter made it a less-than-ideal solution.

Once my Rio bit the dust I came very close to purchasing an IPod for the sole purpose of having more of my collection in the car, accessible through my head unit and an IPod interface add-on. The ability to interface a hdd-based mp3 player through the head unit is just sexy...despite how much some people hate the IPod, it is popular enough (or Steve Jobs has sold enough car audio execs on how "Insanely Great" the IPod is) that many of the car audio companies can justify developing IPod interfaces for their head units. It just sucks though that if you want that kind of controllability right now, you have to have an IPod.

However, several manufacturers are introducing head units this year with usb interfaces on them so you can just plug in a thumbdrive or a portable hdd...I'm almost glad my Kenwood mp3 cd player died on me now.

Anyways, didn't mean to hijack your thread IJ, just thought I'd throw some interesting car audio/mp3 info out there...

i have a shuffle--but it jsut stopped working! and the ass-hats at i-pod have no clue. Should i buy an iriver? How many songs, ectectect?

If it's within a year since you bought it, you're still under warranty. Even the earbuds are still under warranty if under a year.

Doesn't iriver get some pretty bad scores, like 7 out of 10? Try the Walmart cube, 1 gb, size of a pool chalk. Or Samsung Yepp. The Ipod video is priced pretty well considering it has video and mp3 functions, only competition it has might be the Archos stuff.

Had my Iriver for about a year, no problems, enough features and customizability to keep even me happy, and the sound quality, in my opinion, beats my ipod. Plus 40 hour battery life on a single AA battery kicks ass.

As far as tips and tricks go IJ, what are you looking for? I know some space saving procedures if you’re running shy on space. But 60GB is a lot of music.

Robeats: It's actually a Pioneer made interface so you can access all of the I-Pod features from the Head Unit, haven't installed it yet only got it yesterday!

Nate: No probs at all at cruise!

Dirgle: Nothing really just have NFI with these things but seem to be getting the hang of it!

I have close to 1058 songs on it @ 320 kbps sample and it's only used 8.8 GB!

I like the fact I can use it as an Ext HDD and can do the video and pics thing.

Congrats, Ian. My brother has a 40gig version and it's quite bad-ass!
He's looking for a 60 as of right now because his is nearly full!
