The only way I could see you owing $6000 in taxes is if you did not report income to the order of about $38000 and did not pay any with holding. They should of givin you an Idea of where they think you recieved unreported income(ie gift, gambling winnings unreported Tips, etc.). They probably also have offered you a repayment plan.

You can also call your taxpayer advocate for VA at this is at this Address

400 North 8th St., Room 916, Richmond, VA 23240
804-916-3501

If you end up disputing your taxes this is where it is decided.

I had a simular experience but in my case I had forgotten to pay Self Imployment tax(first time doing business) so I actually did owe taxes but in my case it was only $1500

Fuck...That sucks...Like the others have said, get a lawyer and get on top of this asap!!!

You do not want to fuck around with the IRS. They will fuck you inside out and upside down.

I know because a few years back one of my friends filed his tax returns for his company and later recieved a letter from IRS saying he owes them just over quarter million dollars. He was so pissed off and got his lawyer involved. He had alot of sleepless nights and it was so stressful.

After alot of investigation they found out that the IRS offices where he filed his returns was backlogged with alot of work. So someone gave the authorization to a few employees to shred alot of the tax returns. So my friend and alot of other people had their tax returns fucked up.

IRS found out about it
I dont know about the other people whose tax returns got shredded too but my friend had to go to several IRS interviews and he must have been good because he did not have to pay a single penny.

Cheers,
Roy

Glad it worked out for you mate. I find that ironic: "small glitch" for 8 grand... that's like the dentist saying "you're going to feel a slight pinch" as he hefts a 18" long needle into your gums.

Probably not in his best interest to 'play' with the IRS.

^^ Saw something recently from the IRS about a new scam where they send you an email saying U owe alot of money. Then, of course, they provide you a link to some fake IRS site and get your SSN, etc...

Go to the real IRS.gov site and check it out for more details.
