I need some 61/2 inchers.

Basically I want to know, what 6 1/2 inch speakers would you choose/are you using.

I'm still waiting to talk to my dad who is rather good with this stuff but I figure there are some rather skilled folks here.

I have an old school refurbed Punch 45 on its way, Thanks MattJK(RIP)

I really would love to buy some MB quarts, but I dont want to spend that kind of money. Around here, I can walk into a best buy or circuit city and grab some pioneers or infiniti's for a rather good deal.

I'm looking for a general consensus. I will get a bazillion opinions asking here, but some information is better than nothing.

Thanks guys.
Kyle

Affordable high end: Focals

Middle area: JL audio, Alpine Type R SPR, Boston acoustics

Lower end: Pioneer, Infinity, Polk, Alpine SPS

In terms of sound quality this is where I would put these speakers . There are more speakers on the higher end of the spectrum and more on the lower end. But for where you're at and speakers that I've tried I would recommend these.

Those speakers will take pretty good care of you then as long as you have a subwoffer to back them up. Those speaker have a pretty decent sound quality to them but are just a little light in the backbone department, if you know what I mean.

I understand. I don't have a subwoofer, that may come later, but still, I'm sure anything are better than the speakers in there before!

Hopefully I cont screw up the install

if you know someone at bestbuy get them to buy you car audio stuff because they get amazing deals on them. I think i got my alpine type R component speakers for like 60% off. The discount is amazing. If you dont know someone there offer the guys in the car audio section like 20-30 bucks and they might buy it for you.

Yea really, get someone you know who works at bestbuy to get them for you. employees get like 50-60% off car audio speakers.

you might want to take a look at the alpine type-r's. they sound very good and hit pretty hard for a 6.5"

I ran Infinity kappa series speakers in my prelude and they were incredible. I love infinity and highly recomend them. I also got them from ebay and saved a whole lot of money versus buying from a store as I do not have hookups.

I loved the kappa series, I used to heavily rep them. Back in 1999-2000 they were really ahead of the curve when it came to car audio. Unfortunately they have since fallen to the wayside in most ways they are now just an above good speaker.

Factory tweeters removed!

Now to clear up the myth....

6 1/2 inch pods fit, in a pre 1991 car.

But due to acoustics, it is very highly reccomended to get 91+ door panels, most of the speaker is hidden behind door support, but they still sound amazing.

QFT. I have those exact speakers & they don't handle any base at all. I'm adding two 8" subs to help them out.

Yea, I've got some infinity comps i've had for a long ass time... they sound great, but have no midbass. I used to have a set of CDT components, but I had to sell them to pay bills :(.

I have one a dedicated 6.5" subwoofer (yes they do exist, it is a subwoofer, not a midrange driver) that I'm thinking about including, but I'll probably buy another and have 3 ways in my doors instead of the 2way i have in there now.

My door panels were torn, so instead of trying to repair it, I'm in the process of redoing the whole panel so the components are flush.

I've actually completely redid that door. The driver's side door was a little more complicated, and i had to redo the passenger side door so that they'd match.

this kinda goes without saying, but post some finished pics already :)
