I need a new headunit!

Not many people read the audio section. I'm posting this here.

Currently I have a Sony GTX500 i believe. Older model.

I bought it because of the front auxilary input(3.5mm headphone cable)

I'm looking to upgrade! I don't want anything too extravagant or crazy, All I am really looking for, is iPod support. I don't mind working with the ipod from the unit itself, but working with the head unit is a plus.

I'm looking to spend $250~

I love my old pioneer unit, nothing out there now looks right IMHO, it's too flashy and doesn't look clean enough for our interiors...

someone please prove me wrong, I cna't find a headunit that looks even remotely like it belongs in our cars, and stereo theft in my area sucks...

Don't know if they offer iPod support, but Eclipse makes some bad ass head units. I've got the CD5423 (I think that the correct model) unit and the sound quality is night and day compared to my old sony xplod head unit and any other I've seen. Any car I sit in with subs does not put out the quality of bass that the Eclipse can reproduce. It's even got bass amplification (not for regular speakers, it has that too, just like every other head unit, it's called "bass boost by most) for the amp only which I don't see on a lot of units, but then again, I haven't been a car audio nut for a while. I've also got Alphasonic 800 series 10's, that helps with the quality of bass that I have too .

Eclipse was bought out by either panasonic of phillips (one of the P's) so I don't know how good their stuff is now, but mine is from before the buyout.

Search under "fujitsu ten".

Oh, and mine's even got the hookup for the ecomm voice commander, allowing for a full hands free operation .

Alpine CDA-9885... Brand new unit, their highest end CD Player (non-DVD) but it's not over-kill... Great unit... I got my friend the model that this replaced last year and he's been very happy with it...

Retails for $350, but you can get it for low $200s...

JVC does make good HU's, so does Pioneer. Of course, you can't go wrong with Alpine. I personally can't stand kenwood units, they just flat out piss me off. Onlinecarstereo has good prices, but I prefer www.woofersetc.com. Panasonic units aren't bad either, def better than sony or RF.

Does anyone know of a amp/pre-ammp only (no cd, am/fm etc)? I just want to run Xm and Ipod, so I want something that is strictly amplification and nothing else.

Just get a scion deck. You only have to cut a little rubber off the center bezel for it to fit.
